AUTO INDEMNITY GROUP PLC


The Company has been advised on 8th September  that Close Brothers Group plc.,
by virtue of the discretionary management of the undermentioned shares under
written agreements between the beneficial owners of the shares and Close
Investment Limited and Close Fund Management (Investments) Limited, all of which
are subsidiaries of Close Brothers Group plc, has a total holding of 6,015,593
Ordinary shares of 10p in the Company, representing 9.9% of the issued share
capital.


This is a decrease on the previous total holding of 7,015,593 shares,
representing 11.5% following the sale of 1m shares on 4th September 2003.  As a
result the remaining holding is held as follows:


Close Beacon Investment Fund               4,559,693                        7.5%

Individual discretionary managed private 
  clients                                  1,455,900                        2.4%


Total                                      6,015,593                        9.9%

The current number of shares in issue is 61,068,684.
