Taiwan's Acer Inc. (2353.TW) expects its third-quarter notebook computer shipments to rise 35%-40% from the second quarter, company President Gianfranco Lanci said during an investor conference call Tuesday.

Acer, the world's third-largest personal computer maker by revenue after Hewlett Packard Co. and Dell Inc., also expects its fourth-quarter notebook PC shipments to increase 10% from the previous quarter, Lanci said.

Lanci's comments were confirmed by an Acer spokeswoman Wednesday.

The spokeswoman declined to say how many notebook PCs the company shipped in the second quarter.

Lanci said Acer's operating margin may rise to 2.8% in the third quarter, from 2.6% in the second quarter, according to the spokeswoman, who declined to be named.
