Technology & Business University to Open Sacramento Area
Undergraduate/Graduate Center in Elk Grove Facility to Offer
Options, Flexibility for Career-Minded Students SACRAMENTO COUNTY,
Calif., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- DeVry University -- one of
NorthAmerica's leading career-focused universities for business,
technology and management education -- announced today that it will
open its first Sacramento, California, regional facility in the
growing City of Elk Grove this summer. The DeVry UniversityCenter
is expected to be an important addition to the region's educational
landscape, increasing options for residents of the greater
Sacramento/San Joaquin region. Beginning in July 2004, DeVry
University will offer the master's degree programs of its Keller
Graduate School of Management and select undergraduate degree
programs at the Elk Grove facility. The center is designed to serve
career-minded working professionals, recent high school graduates
and transfer students from the area's community colleges. The new
center will be located at 2218 Kausen Drive, Elk Grove, a building
currently under construction in the Laguna West Business Center.
The site is near the intersection of Laguna and Harbour Point
Boulevards and adjacent to I-5, with convenient access to downtown
Sacramento to the north, and San Joaquin County cities to the
South. DeVry has a long-established presence in California, with
facilities in the Bay Area in Fremont and San Francisco, as well as
five locations in Southern California. "The Sacramento metropolitan
area is a vibrant and expanding area, and we expect to fill an
important niche here among educational institutions," said Dr.
Jamie Kho, regional vice president of DeVry University and
president of the DeVry University campus in Fremont. Kho is very
familiar with the educational landscape in Sacramento, having spent
27 years in various capacities at California State University,
Sacramento, before joining DeVry in 2000. With budget cuts limiting
enrollment at state colleges and universities, DeVry's new center
will be a welcome addition for students seeking access to quality
degree programs in the greater Sacramento area. "With a year-round
academic calendar, DeVry's students can complete their programs
more quickly than at more traditional institutions and therefore
reach their career goals faster, whether that is to launch or
advance their career," said Dr. Kho. "We feel confident that
Sacramentans and greater Central Valley residents will see these
and other strong benefits of enrolling at DeVry University."
Bachelor of science degree programs being offered beginning this
summer include business administration and technical management.
DeVry will also offer an associate degree program in electronics
and computer technology. Seven practitioner-oriented master's
degree programs will be offered in business administration, project
management, telecommunications management, human resource
management, information systems management, public
administration, and accounting and financial management. The center
is designed to give flexibility to busy adult learners who can
access resources and academic information in their programs in the
most efficient manner possible, including: -- Taking a mix of
online and in-class instruction. -- Receiving personalized
instruction with classes featuring a low student-to-faculty ratio.
-- Choosing accelerated programs that could allow working adults to
earn both their undergraduate and graduates degrees at the center
in as little as four years. -- Working during the day and going to
school at night. Classroom instruction is available from 6-9:30
p.m. with administration and support staff available during the
evening hours. Students enrolled at the center have the advantage
of learning from a highly qualified team of instructors, who bring
years of practical experience to the classroom from working in
professional management, finance and technology fields. "Our
degreeprograms are taught by educators who are working
professionals themselves -- practitioners who provide students with
useful, current information that they can apply the very next day
in the workplace," said Dr. Kho. "Our educational model is also
designed to be sensitive to the busy and demanding schedules of
today's working professional," Dr. Kho added. "Our undergraduate
students can avail themselves of online course study. And we offer
graduate students the option of taking evening classes at
thecenter, enrolling in online courses, or a combination of the
two." As one of the largest degree-granting higher education
systems in North America, DeVry University provides high-quality,
career-oriented associate, bachelor's and master's degree programs
in technology, business and management. More than 52,000 students
are enrolled at its 24 campuses and 43 centers in 20 states and
Canada, as well as through DeVry University Online. DeVry
