Today, Battelle released two updated guidebooks outlining processes for statutorily mandated quality measure reviews. These processes are informed by expert input and public feedback to ensure rigor, transparency, and inclusivity in the reviews of clinical quality and cost measures.

Funded by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Battelle’s Partnership for Quality Measurement (PQM) convenes diverse individuals—including patients, clinicians, specialty society representatives, and health care experts—to collaborate on the review and recommendation of health care quality measures.

“We are excited to unveil the updated guidebooks that are designed to transform the way we review, evaluate, and recommend clinical quality measures,” said Dr. Nicole Brennan, PQM’s Executive Director and Director of Health Care Quality Improvement for Battelle. “These guidebooks are crafted to reduce the burden across the healthcare system by making measure reviews faster, more transparent, and more inclusive of diverse perspectives. Our commitment to excellence and innovation in healthcare is reflected in these updates, ensuring that our recommendations are not only scientifically sound but also practical and responsive to the needs of healthcare providers and patients," she said.

The two updated guidebooks focus on Endorsement and Maintenance of clinical quality measures, and the processes CMS uses to get recommendations on measures they are considering adding and removing from quality payment programs.

PQM guidebooks are updated annually following a public comment period to ensure a transparent and inclusive review.
