Dow Jones News
Enersis SA's (ENI, ENERSIS.SN) first-quarter profit grew 4.3% to
95.85 billion Chilean pesos ($207.4 million) on increased
electricity demand in the region, the Chilean energy holding
company reported Wednesday.
Enersis, which owns power generation, distribution and
transmission businesses in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and
Peru, said it harnessed increased demand, especially in Chile and
Peru.
The company's sales grew 6.4% on the year to CLP1.58 trillion
from CLP1.48 trillion.
Distribution accounts for 57% of Enersis' sales, while
transmission and generation make up the rest.
However, earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and
amortization fell 15.5% to CLP434.36 billion, from CLP514.06
billion.
Enersis didn't provide a reason for the drop in that
measure.
Spain's Endesa SA (ELEZF, ELE.MC) owns Enersis, which in turn
owns Chile's largest power generator, Empresa Nacional de
Electricidad SA (EOC, ENDESA.SN).
Shares of Enersis ended 0.7% lower Wednesday at CLP195.02, while
the blue-chip Ipsa index slipped 0.3%. Over the last 52 weeks, its
shares have traded at a low of CLP181.87 and a high of CLP241.70,
while losing 6.6% over the same period.
