DEWITT, Mich., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- While winter weather may
seem far away, a project completed today by Consumers Energy will
help to ensure reliable natural gas service for its customers in
the greater Lansing area. Consumers Energy has completed work on a
$15 million upgrade to its natural gas system north of Lansing. The
upgrade includes installation of a new 2.1 mile 20-inch natural gas
line to help ensure system reliability and handle peak loads. In
addition, the project included installation of a new system station
near Dewitt, and redesigned Lansing and Dewitt city gate stations,
which monitor gas line pressure. "This addition to our system will
facilitate continued safe and cost-effective gas deliveries to our
customers when they need it most, and will accommodate future
economic growth in the area," said Kevin Daly, executive director
of gas management services for Consumers Energy. The project is
part of Consumers Energy's "Growing Forward" program, which calls
for investing more than $6 billion in its utility operations over
the next five years. Those investments will help maintain and
improve service to customers, create jobs, boost the state's
economy, and expand the state's tax base. Consumers Energy, the
principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, provides natural gas and
electricity to nearly 6.5 million of Michigan's 10 million
residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties. For more information
