UMB (Nasdaq: UMBF) has 11 bank branches in Colorado today. The merger will add 19 Citywide branches
statewide, nearly tripling its branch presence in the state.
Before the bank changes any signs or locks, though, the two entities must work to understand
how roles and processes will integrate, Williamson said.
Combining employees will create an advantage for UMB as the bank seeks to add clients, he said.
Finding new, talented employees has been an obstacle to growth in the past.
Were always hiring, Williamson said. This [merger] is
a big jumpstart to that, versus the one-off [hiring], which were always doing.
UMB currently has 177
employees in Colorado, a spokesperson said. HTLF last year said it had over 200 employees in the state.
As the bank works on integration with advice from
consulting firm Ernst and Young, Williamson plans to focus on how UMB can stay responsive to clients and maintain the flexibility that has contributed to its organic growth, he said.
Both banks have similar go-to-market strategies and cultures, he said, which
will help. UMB also stands to gain from HTLFs strong retail presence, which UMB leaders say is a perfect complement to UMBs focus on financial business products.
We are doing this because we see a lot of value in what theyre doing, and we dont want to mess that up, Williamson said.
