Research firm IDC estimated that worldwide cloud services in 2009 were $17.4 billion, and are forecasted to grow to $44.2 billion in 2013. Even higher projections as per recent findings of the technology research firm Gartner Inc., the global cloud service market is expected to grow substantially with revenue expected to reach $148.8 billion by 2014. The market research firm is of the opinion that the cloud computing market will grow exponentially by 16.6%, generating revenues of $68.3 billion in 2010 and reaching $148.8 billion by 2014 from $58.6 billion in 2009. The economies of scale and centralized resources create new security challenges to an already stressed IT infrastructure.
