HUDSON, N.H., June 6, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- Atrium Medical's
ClearWay™ local therapeutic infusion catheter has been selected as
one of this year's twenty medical innovations by clinicians and
other members of the Premier healthcare alliance, a hospital-owned
performance improvement alliance of more than 2,600 hospitals and
84,000 other care sites.
Atrium Medical Corporation, a business unit of MAQUET
Cardiovascular, showcased the ClearWay before thousands of
healthcare representatives at Premier's fourth annual Innovation
Celebration. This yearly conference recognizes advancements in
healthcare, highlighting industry suppliers committed to innovation
and improved patient outcomes.
Selection criteria included the uniqueness of the product, its
ability to have an impact on an unmet medical need and its
potential to positively impact patient care.
Innovations were shared during Premier's 2012 Breakthroughs
Conference and Exhibition in Nashville,
Tenn. on June 5. Approximately
4,000 healthcare providers and experts attended the conference.
Atrium's ClearWay™ local therapeutic infusion catheter is a new
atraumatic drug delivery balloon. The ClearWay catheter provides
super selective, local intra-vessel infusion of medication,
allowing more medication to act locally at a higher concentration
and for a longer period of time to maximize its therapeutic effect
on the occluding blood clot or diseased vessel. The balloon
controllably engages the vessel wall to gently and atraumatically
occlude blood flow during drug infusion thus providing drug
concentrations hundreds of times greater at the site of local
delivery than traditional systemic drug administration. ClearWay
offers physicians a simple and highly effective method to maximize
drug availability, concentration, and residence time in order to
greatly enhance the desired therapeutic effect. ClearWay is
available in both rapid exchange (RX) and over the wire (OTW)
platforms and is available in balloon diameter ranges of 1.0 mm to
8.0 mm and balloon lengths ranging from 10 mm to 50 mm.
"All of us at Atrium Medical take extraordinary pride in the
innovative design and manufacture of our products and the quality
service we provide to improve the level of patient care to all of
our Premier members," said Michael
DuPont, Vice President of Marketing, Atrium Medical
Corporation.
"Those who attend and participate in the Innovation Celebration
share Premier's commitment to providing innovative, valuable
products to our members that impact healthcare's safety, quality
and cost," said Durral Gilbert,
senior vice president, Supply Chain Emerging Services, Premier.
"These new innovations will truly benefit people across the nation
as healthcare providers continue to improve care."
