McDonald's Corp. and the five members of its North American
logistics council have struck deals to buy renewable energy and
associated certificates from Enel North America.
The power will be sourced from Enel Green Power's Blue Jay solar
project in Grimes County, Texas, adding that the project is
expected to be fully operational next year.
Enel North America is part of the Enel Group, an Italy-based
clean energy company that serves the renewable energy needs of
businesses, utilities and cities in over 30 countries.
McDonald's and its suppliers are expected to buy over 470,000
megawatt-hours of renewable energy annually from the project, the
companies said.
The renewable energy purchases would help McDonald's and its
suppliers save 170,000 metric tons of carbon emissions annually and
completely support the electricity load of McDonald's entire
logistics supply chain for all its U.S. restaurants with renewable
energy, the companies said.
