Meriden was advised today that City Equities Limited ("City Equities") purchased
33,000,000 ordinary shares of the Company on 5 September 2005, representing 9.57
per cent. of the issued share capital of the Company. City Equities subsequently
sold 27,690,000 ordinary shares.

Accordingly, City Equities no longer has a notifiable interest in the share
capital of the Company.
