Accuracy of results is the top priority when choosing a screening provider according to global respondents in HireRight’s latest annual survey

HireRight, a leading provider of global background screening services and workforce management solutions, today announced the release of its 2024 Global Benchmark Report. This comprehensive report draws from the survey responses of more than 1,250 HR, risk, and talent acquisition professionals worldwide, collected between March 7 and March 28, 2024, to identify trends in global background screening, talent acquisition, and workforce management.

In addition to providing North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) and Asia-Pacific (APAC) regional splits of survey responses, the report compares this year’s data against HireRight’s past years’ survey results, with insights and commentary from many of HireRight’s leaders and subject matter experts.

Among this year’s survey findings, almost three-quarters of global respondents ranked accuracy of results as one of the most important factors when choosing a screening provider, with speed and cost both dropping down in the rankings. Additionally, more than half of global respondents cited the cost of a bad hire as a main risk their business aims to mitigate through employment screening, further supporting the need for accuracy in the background screening process.

Other survey results shared in HireRight’s 2024 Global Benchmark Report include:

  • Most respondents would be comfortable with AI or automation being used for researching or compiling a screening report if it led to speeding up the screening process or reducing the risk of human error.
  • Undisclosed criminal records are the most commonly identified type of candidate discrepancy found by North America employers during the screening process. In EMEA and APAC, employment and education discrepancies are far more common.
  • More than two-fifths of respondents view their non-compliance with applicable laws and regulations as a major risk to their business, suggesting that compliance expertise is seen as a must-have for many companies when evaluating background screening providers.
  • Economic uncertainty and finding qualified job candidates are among the top three talent acquisition concerns for survey respondents from each region this year.
  • Globally, almost two-thirds of respondents expect the uptake of remote and hybrid working to remain roughly the same by the end of 2024. However, 27% of APAC respondents, 19% of EMEA respondents, and 15% of North America respondents expect it to grow during that time.

“The findings in HireRight’s 2024 Global Benchmark Report show that many aspects of background screening, recruitment, and workforce retention continue changing each year,” said Stephen Spears, Chief Revenue Officer at HireRight. "With the insights shared in this report, businesses can better understand the shifting employment landscape and use our benchmarked data to help support their organizations’ future talent tactics and strategies.”
