Walt Disney Co. on Thursday said it named Paul Richardson senior executive vice president and chief human resources officer, effective July 1.

The Burbank, Calif., entertainment giant said Mr. Richardson succeeds Jayne Parker, who earlier this month announced plans to retire at the end of June after 33 years with the company.

Mr. Richardson been senior vice president of human resources for Disney's ESPN unit since 2007 and also served as Disney's first chief diversity officer.
