Enel Green Power North America, Inc. has started operations at
its 450MW High Lonesome wind farm in Texas, the company said,
adding that it is planning an expansion to 500MW on the heels of a
deal with Danone North America.
Enel SpA (ENEL.MI) is the parent company of Enel Green Power
North America.
The High Lonesome facility is "the largest operational wind
project in the group's global renewable portfolio," the company
said.
Enel said it signed a 12-year renewable energy power purchase
agreement with Danone North America. As a result, Enel said, it is
expanding the project's capacity by 50MW. Expanded operations are
expected to start in the first quarter of 2020.
Mariano Lozano, president and chief executive of Danone North
America, said "As a public benefit corporation committed to
balancing the needs of our business with those of society and the
planet, we truly believe that this agreement makes sense from both
a business and sustainability point of view."
According to Enel, investment in the plant totals about $720
million.
