Rayleigh Vision, a company specializing in MicroLED display technology, has announced an advancement in AI-assisted manufacturing that aims to streamline the production of next-generation MicroLED displays. By incorporating AI algorithms and machine learning techniques, Rayleigh Vision claims to have significantly improved the overall efficiency across the mass transfer, inspection, and repair processes compared to industry standards. These technologies have been transferred to a collaborating company, and it is expected to further enhance production efficiency after setting up a pilot production line in Taiwan.

MicroLED technology has long been recognized for its potential to deliver superior brightness, contrast, and power efficiency. However, the complex manufacturing process has posed a challenge to its widespread adoption. Rayleigh Vision's AI-driven solution seeks to address these challenges, aiming to facilitate the mass adoption of MicroLED displays in various applications, including smartphones, wearables, and advanced XR (extended reality) devices.

Rayleigh Vision is actively collaborating with both industry and academia to realize their advanced MicroLED technologies. Their partnership with City University of Hong Kong and National Chung Cheng University has resulted in the development of a groundbreaking 4K blue MicroLED microdisplay with a pixel size of less than 2 micrometers. This achievement opens up possibilities for more advanced applications, such as vertically stacked MicroLED displays, which have been identified as a promising solution by industry leaders like Samsung Display. In the Microdisplay Conference on May 23, Vice President of Samsung Display, Mr. Huh Jong-Moo highlighted that vertically integrated MicroLED technology is the ultimate solution for XR microdisplays. Professor Jr-Hau He from City University of Hong Kong, who is also the founder of Rayleigh Vision, expressed optimism about the company's ability to shape the future of MicroLED technology. He emphasized that their AI-assisted manufacturing solution is just the beginning, and as they continue to refine their processes, they envision a future where MicroLED displays are not only more accessible but also more energy-efficient and visually impressive.

According to TrendForce's "2024 MicroLED Market Trends and Cost Analysis Report," the MicroLED chip production value is projected to reach $580 million in 2028, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 84% from 2023 to 2028. This forecast further underscores the immense potential and growing demand for advancements in MicroLED technology. Efforts to reduce the cost of MicroLED display through smart manufacturing techniques are continuously underway.
