Germany expects Russia to resume gas supply after the current maintenance period on the Nord Stream pipeline, a government spokeswoman said on Wednesday.

Nord Stream, the main channel for Russian gas to Europe, is currently down for maintenance and governments have been concerned that Russia might not restore the flow when work ends Thursday.

Late Tuesday, in comments after a visit to Tehran, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Kremlin-controlled energy exporter Gazprom PJSC, the pipeline's majority shareholder, has always fulfilled and will fulfill all of its obligations.

The German government also said it is working intensively with all stakeholders to put together a rescue plan to support utility Uniper SE, which has applied for government support. The company is a big importer of gas.
