Templeton Latin America Investment Trust PLC (the "Company")


Result of EGM


At the Second Extraordinary General Meeting of the Company held today, 28
September 2001, the resolutions put to the meeting were duly approved by
Shareholders. Accordingly, the Company has been placed in members' voluntary
liquidation and G Ian Rankin and Richard Setchim have been appointed
liquidators to the Company.


In accordance with the reconstruction proposals, for every 100 Shares in the
Company a Shareholder will receive 11.665 Class A (accumulation) shares in the
Templeton Latin America Fund; or #89.429 cash; and any pro rata combination in
accordance with their elections.


The issue price of the Class A (accumulation) shares in the Templeton Latin
America Fund (as determined at the relevant valuation point) was #7.667.


Shareholders who elected to receive Class A (accumulation) shares in the
Templeton Latin America Fund are expected to have contract notes despatched on
1 October 2001. Cash entitlements in respect of those Shareholders who elected
to receive cash are expected to be despatched by 5 October 2001.
