        9 7/8% First Mortgage Debenture Stock 1997/2002 ("the Stock")

With reference to the Notice circulated to all Stockholders on 15 July 1997, the
Company announces that it has today redeemed all of the outstanding Stock in
issue, in accordance with Condition 4 of the Second Schedule to the Trust Deed
dated 7 July 1972 (as amended by the various deeds supplemental thereto).  The
Stock was redeemed at par together with accrued interest to 31 October 1997.
Cheques in respect of the redemption monies were dispatched by First Class post
to Stockholders on the register at 10 October 1997 on 30 October 1997.
