Regulators in the U.S. and Europe have certified Boeing Co.'s
new larger 787-9 Dreamliner for use by airlines, the company said
Monday.
The approval by the Federal Aviation Administration and the
European Aviation Safety Agency clears the way for the first
deliveries of the new jet.
Boeing said in a statement that it is "now in the final stages"
of preparing the first 787-9 for delivery to Air New Zealand
Ltd.
The larger 787-9 began test flying in September 2013 and holds
around 290 passengers, about 40 more than the 787-8, which began
flying with airlines in late 2011.
