                 Chairman's Statement to AGM on Current Trading


At today's Annual General Meeting of Irish Continental Group plc in Dublin, the
Chairman, Mr. Tom Toner gave the following update on trading.

Irish Ferries has had a good start to the year in our passenger business with
car volumes in the year to date (up to 26th April) up 6%, assisted by a strong
showing over the important Easter holiday period.

The freight market for both RoRo and container traffic remains subdued and Irish
Continental's volumes are in line with the same period last year.

Although the trading environment remains challenging we are well positioned to
compete and hope to make further progress.
