Norwegian telecommunications operator Telenor ASA (TEL.OS) said Wednesday that VimpelCom Ltd. has completed the offer for OJSC VimpelCom's (VIP) shares and American Depository Shares, paving the way for a planned merger between the Russian mobile operator and Ukraine's largest operator Kyivstar.

Telenor and Russian partner Alfa Group last year agreed to combine their assets in VimpelCom and Kyivstar into the combined company VimpelCom Ltd.

Shares in Telenor closed Tuesday at NOK86.90.
