Business Wire
Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO), the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States (the “Company”), today reported financial results for its first quarter ended March 28, 2026.
This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260421543068/en/
Net Sales Increased 3.6% to $3.59 Billion
Comparable Store Sales Increased 0.5%
Diluted Earnings per Share (“EPS”) of $0.31
Company Reaffirms Fiscal Year 2026 Outlook, Including Comparable Store Sales Growth of 1% to 3% and Diluted EPS of $2.13 to $2.23
“We delivered solid performance across the majority of our business in the first quarter, supported by our needs-based model and ongoing customer engagement. We continued to gain market share in farm and ranch and had strong double-digit growth in digital sales. Performance was positive across four of our five product categories. While companion animal trailed the Company average, we are taking decisive actions to improve its performance. I want to thank our more than 52,000 Team Members for their ongoing dedication to serving our customers and living our Mission and Values each day,” said Hal Lawton, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tractor Supply.
“We remain confident in our outlook and our ability to drive continued market share gains as our customers remain engaged. The underlying health of Tractor Supply remains strong, supported by a loyal customer base, a differentiated business model and consistent execution.”
First Quarter 2026 Results
Net sales for the first quarter of 2026 increased 3.6% to $3.59 billion from $3.47 billion in the first quarter of 2025. The increase in net sales was driven by robust new store openings and, to a lesser extent, growth in comparable store sales. Comparable store sales increased 0.5% compared to a decrease of 0.9% in the prior year’s first quarter. Comparable average ticket increased 1.6%, partially offset by a comparable average transaction count decrease of 1.0%. The Company delivered strong double-digit growth in digital sales. Four of five product categories delivered positive comparable sales growth in the quarter, complemented by strength in big ticket items. Companion animal performance was below the Company average, reflecting softer demand trends, category shifts and an unfavorable product mix.
Gross profit increased 3.6% to $1.30 billion from $1.26 billion in the prior year’s first quarter, and gross margin was flat with the prior year at 36.2%. The gross margin rate benefited from disciplined product cost management and the continued execution of an everyday low price strategy, offset by higher tariffs and delivery-related transportation costs.
Selling, general and administrative (“SG&A”) expenses, including depreciation and amortization, increased 6.1% to $1.07 billion from $1.01 billion in the prior year’s first quarter. As a percent of net sales, SG&A expenses increased 70 basis points to 29.7% from 29.0% in the first quarter of 2025. The increase in SG&A, as a percent of net sales, was primarily attributable to deleverage of fixed costs given the comparable store sales performance and an accelerated new store opening cadence, partially offset by an ongoing focus on productivity and cost discipline.
Operating income decreased 6.3% to $233.4 million from $249.1 million in the first quarter of 2025.
The effective income tax rate was 23.2% compared to 21.8% in the first quarter of 2025. The effective tax rate for the prior year’s first quarter was impacted by the timing of discrete items.
Net income decreased 8.3% to $164.5 million from $179.4 million in the prior year’s first quarter. Diluted EPS decreased 7.2% to $0.31 compared to $0.34.
The Company repurchased approximately 2.3 million shares of its common stock for $118.0 million and paid quarterly cash dividends totaling $126.4 million, returning a total of $244.4 million of capital to shareholders in the first quarter of 2026.
The Company opened 40 new Tractor Supply stores and closed one Petsense by Tractor Supply store in the first quarter of 2026.

Biannual fundraiser helps plant the seeds for a brighter future for 4-H youth
Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO), the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States, is ready to kick off its spring Paper Clover fundraiser, a biannual event that has generated millions of dollars in scholarships for 4-H youth. From April 17 through May 3, customers can purchase a paper clover at checkout in Tractor Supply stores nationwide or online at TractorSupply.com.
This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260416740975/en/Tractor Supply's biannual fundraiser helps plant the seeds for a brighter future for 4-H youth.
The Tractor Supply Company Foundation has announced a bonus competition for the 2026 spring Paper Clover campaign. On Saturday, April 25, local 4-H organizations will be in Tractor Supply stores nationwide for Demo Days and will compete for additional grants based on their state's average fundraising performance. The top state will receive an additional $10,000; second place receives an additional $5,000 and third place will receive $1,000.
The Demo Days event is an opportunity for customers to test drive zero-turn and riding mowers at stores nationwide. On Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., customers can shop Tractor Supply’s biggest lineup of zero-turn and front engine mowers ever and take them for a spin through a parking lot obstacle course. Customers who test drive a mower will receive a free Tractor Supply hat, while supplies last.
“The Paper Clover campaign supports the future of agriculture through 4-H programs across the country,” said John Ordus, Chief Stores Officer at Tractor Supply and member of the National 4-H Council Board of Trustees. “4-H offers hands-on experiences that give every student the tools they need to succeed. With Paper Clover, we ensure that all students can access these life-changing programs. We are so pleased with what we have achieved in partnership with our Team Members, customers and communities and look forward to another milestone fundraiser.”
Together, Tractor Supply and 4-H have raised more than $26 million for the nation’s youth. The fundraiser, now in its 16th year, strengthens educational programs for 4-H members to engage in hands-on career and life skills projects, participate in leadership and public speaking training, learn from industry leaders and develop the skills necessary to take on leadership roles – all to prepare them for work and life.
During the 2024 Paper Clover fundraiser, Tractor Supply raised over $2.3 million for 4-H youth nationwide. Ninety percent of all donations directly support 4-H youth in the state in which they were made, while the remaining 10% support national 4-H programming.
“Events like Demo Day bring communities into Tractor Supply stores in a fun, hands-on way and make it easy to support something bigger. When customers choose to purchase a Paper Clover, they help 4-H youth gain access to experiences that build confidence, develop practical, work-ready skills and open doors for what’s ahead,” said Heather Elliott, Chief Development and Marketing Officer at National 4-H Council. “This support is critical to 4-H’s Beyond Ready initiative to prepare 10 million young people for work and life. It’s a simple action that makes a real difference locally - giving back to the community while equipping young people with the skills they need for their future.”
4-H is America’s largest youth development organization, empowering nearly six million young people with the skills to be productive, healthy and engaged. Its research-based programming includes activities in the areas of agriculture, health, science and civic engagement, and the guidance and lifelong skills necessary to succeed in college and career. In 2024 4-H launched the Beyond Ready initiative to help 10 million youth become ready for life and work by 2030.

Tractor Supply Surpasses $1 Million to Expand Hands-on Learning for Future Agriculture LeadersMarch 24, 2026 10:57 AM

Annual Grants for Growing fundraiser helps FFA chapters nationwide access tools, facilities and real-world experiences that prepare students for in-demand careers
Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ: TSCO), the largest rural lifestyle retailer in the United States (the “Company”), announced today that its 11th annual Grants for Growing fundraiser raised more than $1 million. During the four-week event, Tractor Supply customers supported the effort by purchasing paper FFA emblems at checkout, which will in turn provide thousands of FFA members across the country with the resources to engage in hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for careers in agriculture and skilled trades.
This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20260324902627/en/Tractor Supply and FFA celebrated 40 years of partnership at the 98th Annual National FFA Convention and Expo where Tractor Supply was awarded the Distinguished Service Citation.
“Each year, our customers help turn small acts at checkout into meaningful opportunities for FFA members across the country,” said Joe Fell, Tractor Supply Vice President – Merchandise Presentation, Promotions and Events and a member of the FFA Sponsor Board. “Grants for Growing brings hands-on learning to life—giving students access to the tools, skills and experiences that shape their future and strengthen the communities we call home.”
Since 2016, Tractor Supply customer donations have supported grant requests including greenhouse construction, beekeeping materials, farm equipment, embroidery machines, curriculum improvement and beyond. FFA chapters can apply for a grant of up to $5,000 until May 15 by submitting details of a project that fits into one of three focus areas: Grow Your Classroom, Grow Your FFA Chapter or Grow Your Ag Awareness.
Grants in Action
In 2025, Grants for Growing funds enabled Haymon Morris Middle School FFA members in Winder, Georgia, to access materials and equipment to construct simple electrical circuits and woodworking projects as part of the Exploratory Agriculture program.
“I never really thought agriculture was such a hands-on class. I enjoyed getting my hands dirty with woodworking and electricity. It makes me want to look more into agricultural mechanics and take that class in high school," said Kaori, an eighth grader at Haymon Morris.
"This has by far been one of my favorite projects. I get to not only learn about this, but I actually get to do it,” added classmate, Beau.
Milford FFA members in Milford, Texas, shared similar feedback after using new electrical equipment purchased with grant funding.
“Students who have zero experience with electricity are finally seeing what a circuit is,” said Stephanie Thoms, Milford Ag teacher and FFA Advisor. “They are getting to experience the success of solving electrical problems and also making the connection in real-time as to why a system isn’t working and what they can do to fix the problem.”
These experiences provide exposure to new fields that can, in turn, lead students to pursue in-demand career opportunities. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics projects that overall employment in construction and extraction occupations, which include electricians, carpenters and metalworkers, is projected to grow faster than the average for all occupations from 2024 to 2034.
An Enduring Partnership
Tractor Supply has been a proud partner of FFA since 1985, donating nearly $24 million through various initiatives to support FFA’s work preparing members for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture. Tractor Supply also supports FFA members through the FFA Future Leaders Scholarship program. Established in 2022, Tractor Supply committed $5 million over five years, making it the largest agriculture scholarship fund of its kind. Through the fund, nearly 300 students have been awarded scholarships to support their ongoing education at four-year universities, two-year colleges or vocational and trade schools.
FFA is a dynamic youth organization that prepares members for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. The organization develops members’ potential and helps them discover their talent through hands-on experiences, which give members the tools to achieve real-world success.
