NEW YORK, July 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Evercore Partners Inc.
(NYSE: EVR) announced today that Mark H. Burton has agreed to join
the firm's Advisory business as a Senior Managing Director. Mr.
Burton, who will be based in New York, comes to Evercore from
Barclays Capital, where he was most recently a Vice Chairman and a
senior member of the Financial Institutions Group. Prior to the
acquisition of the U.S. operations of Lehman Brothers, Mr. Burton
was a Vice Chairman at Lehman, and was a member of the firm's
Strategic Committee, Senior Client Council and Business Development
Committee. At Evercore, as with Barclays and with Lehman, Mr.
Burton will provide senior-level counsel to the world's leading
financial institutions. "We are extremely pleased to welcome one of
the preeminent investment bankers in the financial services sector
to Evercore," said Ralph Schlosstein, President and Chief Executive

years and I believe his exceptional reputation, senior-level
relationships and deep expertise will significantly enhance
Evercore's franchise. Additionally, Mark's appointment speaks to
Evercore's continued ability to attract world class talent,
furthers our goal of broadening our capabilities in key market
sectors and positions the firm for continued growth as the M&A
market recovers." "We are thrilled to have Mark join the Evercore
team -- he is a banker cut in the Evercore mold, capable of
delivering trusted advice to his long-term relationships," said
Jane Gladstone Wheeler, the leader of Evercore's Financial
Institutions Group. Over the course of his 28-year career as an
investment banker, Mr. Burton has advised on a number of the most
significant transactions in the financial services sector. These
include being part of the team that advised The Royal Bank of
Scotland in its acquisition of ABN AMRO; Golden West in its sale to
Wachovia; Charter One in its sale to Citizens Financial; numerous
acquisitions for Sovereign Bancorp, including its sale to Banco
Santander; Riggs National in its sale to PNC; GreenPoint in its
sale to North Fork; Banknorth in its sale to Toronto-Dominion;
Huntington Bancshares in its acquisition of Sky Financial; as well
as a number of FDIC/RTC Assisted Transactions, among others. "I am
excited to join such a highly regarded investment banking boutique
and to be part of a talented team of people that I have enjoyed
working with over the years, especially Roger and Ralph, whom I
first got to know at Lehman Brothers," said Mr. Burton. "There are
a number of important long-term client relationships that I look
forward to continuing to focus on at Evercore, while also helping
the firm broaden its financial services expertise at this important
turning point for the industry." Mr. Burton, 50, began his career
at Lehman Brothers in 1981 and held a number of increasingly senior
positions with the firm's investment banking division over the
course of his career, becoming a Managing Director and Partner of
