         BENFIELD LIMITED RECEIVES NOTICE OF AUTHORISATION FROM THE FSA

Benfield Limited, a UK subsidiary of Benfield Group Limited the world's leading
independent reinsurance intermediary, announced today that it has received
notification from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) that their application
for permission under Part IV of the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000
(FSMA) has been granted.  Benfield Limited will be authorised with effect from
14 January 2005.
