Project Part of Larger Program That Protects Nation's Most Important Landscapes and Waterways ARLINGTON, Va., Jan. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today a group of diverse partners, including the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, The Conservation Fund and Centex Homes (NYSE:CTX), joined together with the local community to enhance and expand recreation opportunities at Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge at Delaware Bay. Over the next two days, the volunteers, including local employees from Centex Homes, will build a new handicapped accessible observation tower at Fowler Beach. The skilled group will also create a 200- foot section of raised boardwalk, which will include two bridges within the refuge public use area and connect five existing trails at Prime Hook into one loop. Once connected, this six-mile trail will become one of Sussex County's most popular walking destinations, according to Jonathan Schafler, refuge manager. "Supporting the protection of the Delaware Bay watershed is part of our company-wide commitment to balance land conservation with responsible development," said Karin Silver, division manager of Centex Homes' Eastern Shore D.C. Metro Division. "Our local employees and vendors are excited to be part of a volunteer project that will bring visitors closer to nature." Prime Hook NWR represents one of the nation's premiere examples of freshwater marsh left in the United States. It's 10,000-plus acres offer a unique opportunity to see nature at its finest and provides habitat for a variety of wildlife, including millions of migrating birds such as the red knot, ruddy turnstone and sandpiper.
