EHang Participates in European Institute of Innovation and Technology Project U-SAVE to Deploy its Innovative Aerial Systems for Emergency Response Services
Guangzhou, China, January 22, 2025 - EHang announced its participation in Urban Supply Aerial Vehicles for Emergencies (“U-SAVE”) project, one of the projects of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (“EIT”), an independent body of the European Union. The project aims to develop and demonstrate an innovative integrated aerial system capable of rapidly transporting life-saving supplies in response to emergency cases.
Funded by the European Commission under the EIT’s Urban Mobility initiative, U-SAVE aims to improve response times and safety, avoiding road traffic congestion and associated risks during emergencies and increasing the efficiency of emergency services. Advanced systems are designed to operate efficiently in complex urban aerial environments, providing a reliable and eco-friendly alternative to conventional ground-based emergency response methods. The project consortium is composed of highly-recognized partners and stakeholders from the industry, including the Aragonese Aerospace Cluster (“AERA”), the Aragonese Innovative Logistics Association (“ALIA”), ANRA Technologies and the Estonian Aviation Academy (“EAVA”). U-SAVE has also garnered support from public institutions like Zaragoza City Council, the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences, Hernán Cortés Hospital Group, the Aragón Health Cluster, and the city of Tartu in Estonia, as well as endorsement from health and logistic private companies like Novaltia and Prolog.
To achieve the project´s objectives, EHang will contribute its state-of-the-art EH216 series pilotless eVTOL aircraft system, leveraging its extensive operational expertise, in-depth knowledge of UAM, and established footprint across Europe. The project will feature flight demonstration campaigns in two European host cities—Zaragoza, Spain, and Tartu, Estonia. Additionally, trial and test flights will be conducted at EHang’s UAM Center at the Lleida–Alguaire International Airport (“LEDA”) in Spain, which was launched in November 2023, ensuring robust validation of the system’s capabilities.

EHang has achieved its highest number of deliveries to date with its two-seat EH216-S autonomous eVTOL aircraft. Reporting financial results for the second quarter, the Chinese company said it delivered 49 vehicles in the three months to June 30, which was almost twice the 26 it recorded in the first quarter of this year.
Deliveries of the aircraft that achieved type certification with the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) in October 2023 were a big boost to EHang’s revenues. These reached RMB 102 million ($14 million) in the second quarter, which was a 65.3% increase over the first three months of this year.
The ramp-up in cash flow, which was positive for the third successive quarter, helped the company to reduce its net loss by 5.4% to RMB 71.6 million, albeit with its operating loss increasing by 2.8% to RMB 77.4 million. As of June 30, its cash reserves stood at RMB 988.2 million. The company reported that it raised a further RMB 554.1 million through an equity offering, which has now closed.
Air Operator Certificates In Process
During the second quarter, EHang received its production certificate from the CAAC, allowing it to increase manufacturing rates. In July, the CAAC accepted the application for an air operator certificate (AOC) submitted jointly by EHang General Aviation and its partner Hefei Heyi Aviation.
The company reported that it expects to secure the approval it needs to expand pilotless commercial flights later this year, and said that other customers and partners are now preparing AOC applications. Under special permits, EHang has been able to conduct public demonstration flights, including some with passengers on board.
In recent months, the Guangzhou-based manufacturer logged new EH216-S orders from Chinese customers including Xishan Tourism and the government of Wencheng County in Zhejiang province. It has also reported various conditional purchase plan agreements for the aircraft, with the latest of these being with KC Smart Mobility for tourism services in Hong Kong, Macau, and Hubei province.
“We are committed to launching commercial operations of the EH216-S in the near future, which will usher in a new phase of growth focused on intra-city mobility,” said EHang’s founder, chairman, and CEO Huazhi Hu. “At the same time, we will meet diversified urban air mobility demand through ongoing research, development, and testing of advanced technologies, upgraded components, and new models, such as our lift-and-cruise [VT-30] eVTOL designed for inter-city mobility.”

Similar to the previous type certification process, the OC certification for EH216-S pilotless passenger-carrying aerial vehicle cannot directly follow the existing standards in civil aviation field, but rather requires innovation and improvement based on current regulations to establish a new and applicable standard. In March, the CAAC issued a Consultation Notice on the Application and Issuance of Operator Certificate under the Civil Aviation Regulations Part 92, aiming to ensure a smooth implementation of the Rules on the Safety Management of Civil Unmanned Aircraft (CCAR-92) . It clarifies the OC application procedures and requirements, standardizes the scope and key points of operational safety assessments, and refines operational management requirements. Leveraging EHang’s extensive operational data and practical experience, the Company is actively collaborating with the CAAC to develop EH216-S operational standards, which will provide a reference basis for the world's first commercial operation regulatory system for pilotless passenger-carrying eVTOLs.
In May of this year, the group standard "Technical Requirements for eVTOL Aircraft Landing Sites", primarily drafted and initiated by EHang, was released. This standard provides clear guidelines on the technical parameters of eVTOL aircraft landing sites, including physical characteristics, obstacle limitations, site selection, structural design, and specialized facilities. As China's first technical specification for eVTOL aircraft landing sites, it will serve as a reference basis for the development of eVTOL industry standards in China and will also make a significant contribution to commercial operations of EHang eVTOLs.
Recently, Song Zhiyong, CAAC Administrator, stated that China's low-altitude economy is entering a new phase of rapid growth. As the industry regulatory authority, the CAAC will prioritize five key areas of focus, including the construction of unmanned aerial vehicle (“UAV”) demonstration zones, the development of airworthiness certification capabilities, the certification of OC, planning and construction of airport facilities, and the establishment of low-altitude flight service support system.

Horizon Aircraft ("Horizon"), a Canadian company leading in the global aerospace industry, has designed, engineered and overseen all testing of the Cavorite X5.
On February 18, Astro announced it has entered into an agreement to acquire Horizon to accelerate Astro's Alta and Elroy programs, one of the first modern eVTOL aircraft to fly with people on board. Astro's existing roots in the industry and high-calibre expertise, combined with Horizon's engineering competencies, is expected to position the Company to be one of the leaders in the eVTOL market. Astro expects to complete the acquisition of Horizon in April.
The primary objective for the sub-scale eVTOL prototype's test flights is to verify aerodynamics, control systems and transition flight. The Cavorite X5 features fully autonomous self-learning auto pilot software and an array of specialized 3D-printed lifting fans in the wings that provide additional thrust for vertical takeoff and landing. For vertical flight, the wing surfaces retract to open its ducted fans before closing again, maximizing the craft's aerodynamic efficiency.

The full-scale Cavorite X5, which will travel up to an estimated 450 km/h with a 500-kilometre range, is designed for reduced hydrocarbon emissions, poor weather, traffic avoidance, and low-time pilots. The patented fan-in-wing allows the Cavorite to be the world's first eVTOL that can fly the majority of its mission exactly like a normal aircraft.

EHang Applies AAVs in Flood Emergency Response Exercise in China

EHang Holdings Limited (Nasdaq: EH) (“EHang” or the “Company”), the world's leading autonomous aerial vehicle (“AAV”) technology platform company, announced its successful participation in a flood emergency response exercise recently organized by the local government in Shaoguan, China. In this exercise, EHang had fully demonstrated the real application of its AAV technologies in an emergency situation. The large-scale AAV operations were conducted efficiently and autonomously, in a centralized mode. This further exemplifies the use case of smart city management.
In order to effectively prepare for the upcoming flood season, the exercise simulated a scenario of bank collapse of the Wujiang River, which threatened the safety of the township and its schools. In this exercise, the local authorities promptly launched the alert and carried out ten measures to combat the flood, including transferring people at risk, sending an emergency rescue team, rescuing drowning people with boats and delivering relief supplies, etc.
As a supporting partner, EHang responded quickly by sending ten remotely-managed AAVs to four emergency sites. Controlled from a remote command-and-control center, EHang AAVs livestreamed the process of emergency repair, flood discharge, and staff transfer via built-in high definition cameras. Furthermore, EHang AAVs were able to accurately drop life jackets and other relief materials to the victims, which was one of the critical emergency response capabilities needed for flood relief.
During the exercise, EHang demonstrated the technical advantages of preset routes and centralized management of its AAVs, which can be equipped with different task modules and connected with the command-and-control center in real-time through 4G or 5G networks. EHang provided strong support for local authorities to exchange real-time information and make timely decisions in the face of fast-changing situations during a flood, thereby greatly improving the effectiveness of an emergency reaction.
