At this point in time we are waiting a decision by the UK government whether there will be a windfall tax on banking profits. Recent articles in the media are showing there is a push against the windfall tax being added to the budget...despite the "think tank's" recommendation.

Up +09 in premarket this morning. Reminder: this stock trades as LLOY in London. Every share of LYG equals 4 shares of LLOY for dividend calculation purposes. The motor scandal in UK after Europe markets closed on Friday. So that is why LLOY is up more percent wise than LYG this morning.

Now we wait to see if Lloyds puts out updated guidance on earnings after the court victory.

The court ruled favorably for the lenders....no mass compensation fund. Overturned the majority of the appeals courts decisions.

Victory for the individuals who had specific claims which could be proven.

Obvioously, the article speaks for itself. BLUF: There is a risk on contagion to other markets because this kind of commission was happening elsewhere.

Earnings reported today. 15 percent hike in the interim dividend. Confirmed guidance for 2025 and guidance for 2026.

Expect to see this continue to be a solid dividend performer.

Now we are just waiting for the outcome of the motor scandal

I have held this stock for a quite a while and made purchases over the last 10 years based on the dividend alone. I do not think the current motor scandal will alter the dividend at this point. They have funds set aside for the scandal and at worst they may have to slow share repurchases before altering the dividend.

I will continue to purchase shares on any weakness for the dividend. It is important note I am purchasing the ADR shares. They are worth 4 LLOY shares for dividend calculations.

The recent share repurchases are of the LLOY shares trading on the UK markets. I think this stock is investable at this point but for those seeking a huge spike in the growth of the stock price this is probably not going to happen until the current motor scandal is resolved. Some clarity is expected by the end of Summer but with a lot of this playing out in courts those timelines could slip.

Catalysts:

1) Motor Scandal Resolution: If it is favorable to Lloyd's the stock will rise. If the decision is delayed, I think this keeps price per share down and is also favorable long term if Lloyd's continues with share repurchases. If the decision is perceived as bad the stock price could take a hit in the near term. But ultimately, Lloyd's will manage through it.

Favorable resolution of Motor Scandal: I will hold my position and not buy could actually sell some on a decent size pop in price per share.

Delayed decision: I will consider buying if the share price takes a hit. Otherwise, I am a holding waiting on share price weakness. Basically, the stock is riding at fair market value and for those thinking of investing there are probably better places to invest if you are looking for growth over dividends. If you are looking at purchasing for the purposes of diversifying you portfolio and want something stable to invest in from that perspective this a fairly decent play. I think you will see above average returns over 10 years and a dividend while you wait for resolution of the current scandal.

I am bullish long term. I acknowledge there is a near term headwinds.

So what is the next catalyst for this stock.

1) This company is the largest home lender and one of largest automotive lenders.
a) The Mortgage market is experiencing a bit of a down turn based on current forecasts. So any up beat news would be helpful
b) The automotive lending scandal is set to be decided in July. Lloyd's has already set aside a fund which would help pay any negative decision by the courts. However, if the verdict is deemed positive this would provide a boon to Lloyd's economically.

As this continues, Lloyd's is still accelerating share repurchases. If there are pull backs below the $4 dollar range for the ADR shares I will probably purchase more shares.

It is nice to see continuing strength on this stock. I think we will see more. The current repurchases of shares are astounding. I think the resolution of some major BREXIT issues coupled with this stock now doing repurchases and paying a dividend will drive stock prices higher.

I considered this a buy and hold for the dividend for the longest time. Now I think it might have somewhere to go with the recent stock repurchases and dividend in play.

I used to think that if you raised interest rates the banks would go up since they make more money on loans. Everybody is raising interest rates and bank stocks are not responding. Why?

This has been held down by BREXIT limbo. Once the dust settles on BREXIT this will take off.

For us Americans there are 2 important things to know. The Dividend is paid based on the British Pound. So the exchange effects the dividend. Right now the Pound is doing well against the dollar. This is why the dividend yield is high. But the pound has been held down by BREXIT. With the odds of completing BREXIT all but assured the Pound will climb higher against the dollar. 15 percent or so is the best guess I can come up with based on the pound/dollar ratio prior to the BREXIT vote.

The second thing to know is that 1 share of LYG on US exchange is equivalent to 4 shares of LLOY.GB on London Stock exchange.

All this explains why the 2 shares appear to trade out of sync with each other.

This also means that as UK economy stabilizes after BREXIT Uncertainty is over it will be extremely good for the US traded shares.

Today was a sad day for two reasons. Firstly stock price fell in the 2’s. Very crappy. Secondly my dumb dog died while catching a beer truck. His name was Molson. He really liked beer. Needless to say I am quite devastated. I am sure stock price will recover. But my dog is gone. Dog gone it.
