New Jersey American Water Provides Wise Water Tips for Summer as New Jersey Drought Warning Remains in EffectMay 20, 2026 10:52 AM
PR Newswire (US) CAMDEN, N.J., May 20, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- With temperatures in the mid-90s this week and the unofficial start to summer this holiday weekend, New Jersey American Water is reminding customers that smart irrigation and landscaping practices are essential for conserving water, especially as New Jersey remains under a drought warning."As we head into the summer months, we know our customers are spending more time outdoors and using more water," said Mark McDonough, president of New Jersey American Water. "Conserving water is a shared responsibility, and by making small changes, like limiting outdoor watering and using smart irrigation practices, our customers can play an important role in protecting our water resources."Despite recent precipitation, the state is still recovering from a significant rain deficit from late last summer that continued through winter and spring. In response to the ongoing drought warning issued by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), New Jersey American Water's Mandatory Conservation Notice remains in effect statewide."While we saw a little relief over the winter, New Jersey is feeling the effects of nearly two years of below-normal precipitation," Governor Mikie Sherrill said in a recent press release issued by the state. "It is extremely important that all residents and businesses remain mindful of conserving water use going into the late spring and early summer, when demand normally increases. I urge everyone to join us in spreading awareness about the importance of conserving water."To help alleviate stress on water sources and save on water bills, New Jersey American Water offers the following smart irrigation and landscaping tips:Upgrade Your Irrigation System:Use smart controllers: These devices automatically adjust watering based on weather conditions.Install rain sensors: Prevent unnecessary watering during or after rainfall.Consider drip irrigation: This system delivers water directly to plant roots, reducing evaporation and runoff.Inspect and maintain regularly: Fix broken sprinkler heads and check for leaks or overspray.Landscape Thoughtfully:Plant drought-resistant and native species: These plants require less water and thrive in local conditions.Mulch matters: Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around plants to retain moisture and reduce weed growth.Mow wisely: Keep grass height between 2.5 and 3.5 inches to improve drought resistance and reduce water needs.Group plants with similar water needs: This helps avoid overwatering or underwatering certain areas.Water Smart:Water early or late: Irrigate in the early morning or late evening to reduce water loss through evaporation.Water two times per week at a maximum: Most lawns only need watering once or twice a week, and watering more frequently can harm your plants.Check soil moisture: Stop watering when the soil is moist 4–6 inches deep. This is typically enough for healthy root growth.Turn it off when it rains: If rain is in the forecast, skip the watering day altogether.New Jersey American Water continues to monitor water supply conditions and is working closely with NJDEP and local authorities. The company has implemented operational adjustments to maintain service reliability, but conservation remains a critical part of managing the ongoing drought. Customers can learn more about wise water use and track their usage by logging into their MyWater account at amwater.com/mywater. Additional tips and tools are also available at newjerseyamwater.com/conservation and on NJDEP's Water Conservation website at dep.nj.gov/conserve-water.About New Jersey American Water

Water Quality Reports Available Online for New Jersey American Water CustomersMay 14, 2026 4:24 PM
PR Newswire (US) Reports show drinking water in all service areas meets quality standards.CAMDEN, N.J., May 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- New Jersey American Water is proud to announce that its most recent Water Quality Reports are now available for all service areas on its website at newjerseyamwater.com/waterquality. The company is proud to report that once again, the drinking water provided to the 3 million New Jerseyans it serves meets or surpasses both state and federal water quality standards for all regulated substances, including lead."Providing safe, clean, reliable and affordable drinking water requires dedicated people and sustained investment," said Mark McDonough, president of New Jersey American Water. "From the employees collecting and analyzing samples to those operating our treatment plants and maintaining our pipes, our teams work every day to deliver water that our customers can rely on, supported by more than $780 million invested across New Jersey last year alone to strengthen our treatment and pipeline infrastructure."The 2026 annual water quality report (also referred to as a "consumer confidence report") details the quality of water provided by the company to its customers using data collected from water quality testing in its local systems between January and December 2025. It highlights the compounds detected in the treated drinking water in comparison to the compliance standards established by both the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP). As an additional layer of education and transparency, the report also details results of tests conducted for certain unregulated compounds, in areas where they are present and thus treated to achieve levels below recommended health guidelines."Our water quality reports reflect the high standards we hold ourselves to," said McDonough. "They're one more way we demonstrate our commitment to our customers and the communities we serve."This year's Water Quality reports include important information related to the company's Lead Service Line Replacement efforts. In July 2021, the state of New Jersey enacted legislation that requires all water providers to share with customers the material of the utility-owned and customer-owned service lines that lead to their property, notify customers with service lines that are lead or galvanized steel, and replace them. New Jersey American Water regularly tests for lead in drinking water and our water continues to meet state and federal water quality regulations, including those set for lead.Customers can access the Water Quality report specific to their area by visiting the Water Quality tab on New Jersey American Water's website and searching for their report by zip code. The company provides a video guide that shows customers how to access their reports step by step. Printed copies of the report are also available to customers who do not wish to access it online. Customers can call the company's customer service center at 800-272-1325 to request a hard copy of their local report. To learn more about New Jersey American Water's commitment to water education, environmental stewardship, and quality service, visit www.newjerseyamwater.com.About American Water

PR Newswire (US) Company to spend more than $50 million restoring streets and sidewalks impacted by underground utility workMECHANICSBURG, Pa., May 12, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania American Water announced plans today for its 2026 restoration work, which focuses on permanently restoring streets, sidewalks and other surfaces impacted by water main replacements and wastewater pipe upgrades. The company expects to spend more than $50 million this year to complete restoration projects across the Commonwealth."Much of our work takes place underground, often in roadways," said Jim Runzer, vice president of operations for Pennsylvania American Water. "Weather and ground conditions can affect timing for permanent paving, and we appreciate our customers' patience. We don't consider a project complete until final restoration is finished."The restoration work follows extensive system improvements across the state. In 2025, Pennsylvania American Water spent more than $722 million to upgrade water and wastewater systems serving customers in 38 counties and 436 communities statewide, including approximately $638 million for water system improvements and $84 million for wastewater systems. To improve efficiency and reduce disruption for residents and drivers, restoration work is generally scheduled on a neighborhood-by-neighborhood basis. This approach allows crews to complete permanent repairs at multiple locations within the same area during a single timeframe, helping restoration move more quickly while minimizing repeated impacts to local streets and communities."Our goal is to leave communities better than we found them," Runzer added. "This work helps us deliver safe, reliable service to our customers while also improving road conditions and safety for everyone who lives and travels in these communities."These efforts also support local economies. Pennsylvania American Water Highlights Local Infrastructure Needs as AWWA issues New Report on U.S. Water SystemsMay 1, 2026 10:59 AM
PR Newswire (US)
MECHANICSBURG, Pa., May 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania American Water reinforces the need for long-term investments in U.S. water infrastructure following the release of a new report from the American Water Works Association (AWWA). The report, titled Beyond the Replacement Era: Balancing Compounding Infrastructure Needs with Household Affordability, finds that $2.1-$2.4 trillion is required over the next 25 years to sustain and modernize the nation's drinking water systems, underscoring both the accelerating costs of delivering safe, reliable water and the growing pressure on household affordability. "The AWWA report reflects the reality that delivering high-quality water to customers and communities in Pennsylvania and across the nation is growing more complex due to evolving standards, aging systems and rising industry demands," said Pennsylvania American Water President Justin Ladner. "Pennsylvania American Water is committed to investing more than $631 million in 2026 to modernize infrastructure, strengthen resilience and support safe, clean, reliable and affordable water and wastewater services for more than 2.5 million Pennsylvanians."American Water, the parent company of Pennsylvania American Water, maintains its commitment to invest up to $48 billion over the next ten years to modernize infrastructure, strengthen resilience and support safe, reliable service for more than 14 million people nationwide. In 2025, Pennsylvania American Water invested $722 million in water and wastewater infrastructure across the state. These investments support system reliability, enhance water quality and strengthen resilience against extreme weather and other emerging challenges. These national findings reflect challenges utilities are actively managing in Pennsylvania: A structural shift in costs: Utilities manage compounding pressure beyond infrastructure replacement, including regulatory requirements, climate resilience, cybersecurity and treatment of more complex water sources. Rising affordability pressures: Household water bills could more than double by 2050 if the funding gap is addressed primarily through rate increases. The importance of financing tools: Programs like State Revolving Funds (SRF) and Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) remain critical to supporting investment while helping maintain affordability. Pennsylvania American Water supports policies and partnerships at the local, state and federal levels that enable continued investment while helping to manage customer costs. This includes access to customer assistance programs, infrastructure funding and solutions that support affordability for customers. Pennsylvania American Water emphasizes that addressing these cost pressures requires a long-term, balanced approach – one that balances critical infrastructure investment with affordability for customers in Pennsylvania and across the country.
