Still going with my previous opinion
that Veritone's future, good or bad, largely depends on AWS. Veritone has been talking about going to market with AWS since 2023. Spent a lot of time gearing up for that with certifications, hiring marketing positions, etc. AI solutions group and consulting services all focused on AWS. SCA says AWS will work with Veritone in HR, M&E and Public Sector. Seems something got delayed in 2024. Just like new Alexa was delayed.
So maybe if Veritone all in with AWS, contract requires Veritone to be quiet. Maybe Veritone just following AWS lead at this point.

If AWS using
DMH for search for NFL footage, wouldn't it make sense that DMH would be part of the upcoming Alexa.
Alexa is going to require intelligent search capabilities. Why would Alexa and the one for the NFL be two different search engines. Would think a lot of NFL fans would be using Alexa.
Also, looking again at Veritone comment
Signed a multi-year extension with the National Football League, providing searchable access to valuable sporting content to enrich its fan experience.
Says searchable access to enrich its fan experience. Typically when Veritone announces deals with sports groups, it is for archive footage for licensing for documentaries, etc. Not typically for the average Joe like NFL fans.
Could see the same thing with someone like CBS. Anyone with Alexa could search CBS archives for certain footage.

Regarding RS follow-up response.
Thx Cpeter for asking the question. When you think about what RS said there, you can see why aiWARE would have limited success to date.
these advancements in models, at reduced prices, creates more margin, performance and value for our hundeds of aiWARE customers.
When you consider compute costs, processing speed, costs of AI models, cloud expense, etc., guessing that for years it just has not been a great value proposition for customers to use aiWARE for what it is intended to be used for, orchestrating multiple AI models and ingesting/interrogating a ton of data. It probably has just been too damn expensive to use aiWARE for what it is intended. As compute costs, infrastructure costs, AI model expense goes down, while the performance improves, aiWARE becomes more attractive.
Probably why Veritone spends a lot of time marketing less complex applications like Redact. Would be interesting to know when they would expect the technology and infrastructure to mature to the point where aiWARE, used to it full potential, would become an attractive value proposition for Enterprise customers. Might still be a couple years out. But I would think that the Deepseek news will be a plus for Veritone. Should ratchet down LLM costs. And like RS said, cognitive models have come way down in price. So maybe Veritone might become more attractive as the market matures.

Once again,
today's post is just another example that they are not promoting their platform publicly, and have not been 2 maybe 3 years. So can probably stop expecting it to happen.
Think it is all about partners now. imo, Veritone future good or bad, largely depends on the AWS/Veritone relationship. These days, RS says it is all about applications.
I think DMH 2.0 contains the aiWARE tech that could be considered Veritone's differentiating capabilities, and they haven't even announced DMH 2.0.
But with the NFL example, looks like AWS is providing a white label DMH version. Also, Veritone partner Adobe just came out with those same search capabilities in beta. https://www.makeuseof.com/adobe-ai-caption-translation-and-search-tools/
So guess we will have to see if any of this shows up at earnings call, or possibly increased guidance.

Generally speaking
when I think about back in the Chad Steelberg days, aiWARE, being a next generation platform was going nowhere. Couldn't scale aiWARE back then because of all the compute costs associated with orchestrating AI models. Probably didn't have all the cloud architecture in place. Didn't have the chips up to snuff. Think in order for aiWARE to be successful, have to have all the infrastructure built out. I think Veritone has always had to have partnerships.
That's why back in 2022, when RS said we've decided that the Fed business requires a partner approach, thought that was strange, because it always required a partner approach. It was Deloitte that worked with them to get aiWARE on Fedramp. They were already working with AWS Microsoft, etc, before CS stepped down and RS focused on ecosystem. I think RS took over to focus on ecosystem because partnership agreements were established in 2022. Don't think aiWARE goes anywhere without partners.
But now things are being commercially deployed on an enterprise level.
As RS stated in the Schwab interview, the infrastructure has been built, now have a runway. Well, no excuses now imo. aiWARE as a next generation platform has now become a current generation platform. Absolutely need to see evidence that aiWARE has arrived between now and March imo.

According to the article:
This generative AI-powered media retrieval system has been in use for just the first few months of the 2024 NFL season.
NFL season started in September. Could also be a trial period in place, so no revenues.
It seems clear to me that Veritone's financial future depends on the relationship with AWS to a great degree. Even if AWS using aiWARE and DMH tech, we have no idea what the revenues will be.
We know from that AWS/Veritone blog post back from May Veritone enhanced search capabilities. Ask Veri has dropped off the face of the earth after NAB show. But then in August announced the SCA with AWS.
Doesn't make any sense to me why Veritone would not be more publicly vocal about their AI and search capabilities, unless tied to some partnership that requires them to keep quiet.
Veritone will tell you about Redact. or Contact analytics, or Broadbean job distribution. But never want to tell you about their aiWARE capabilities. Why develop DMH 2.0 and then not want to talk about it.
Bottom line is they better have something for us between now and March earnings, whether via announcements, or whether it shows up in the form of revenues and guidance.
RS has not publicly espoused aiWARE capabilities since he took over, and here we sit under 3 bucks. Miserable. But if have to keep quiet because of partners, then we need to be informed soon, since it appears everyone heading in the direction that Chad had been talking about since day one.

Veritone not demonstrating revenue growth.
But IMO have created a pretty impressive ecosystem of partner integrations and enterprise customers that at the very least, have aiWARE in their hands. Would seem to me that if Veritone is unable to make something out of this ecosystem, then somebody else will. Somebody could come along and inject credibility into aiWARE, and immediately have all these 3000 plus customers ready to go. Hard for me to believe that Veritone is just going to die and have this vast ecosystem die along with it. Veritone in survival mode due to poor financial management. Basically all started with the disastrous acquisition of Pando. Amazon literally gutted them, and CS failed to establish adequate safeguards against losing this customer.
But now the market, as cpeter alluded to is getting away from the LLM hype and now seeing the value of marrying LLMs with domain specific data. Don't know why this Veritone ecosystem and aiWARE would not have value this year.

CS was a hype machine, no question about that. And in hindsight, proved to be misleading to investors. Goes to show that hype can only get you so far.
That's why I would be just as cautious about Versus going forward, as Veritone.
Both Veritone and Versus focused on so-called "next generation" platforms.
At least under Chad's hype, they were able to raise a significant amount of capital, and bought legitimate businesses. Have they done anything with those businesses? No. LOL. But at least have something to show for their capital raises, and have real business relationships with reputable customers. Versus still mostly a concept company, and I would think a long way to go towards commercial grade enterprise adoption.
Veritone supposedly on the verge of DOJ and DOD announcement, which if executed, would validate aiWARE and applications in a big way.
