Super Micro Computer (NASDAQ:SMCI) shares fell 10% on Thursday following reports that the company lost a sizable contract with Oracle involving Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA) GB300 NVL72 server racks.



Contract cancellation worth over $1 billion



According to Bluefin Research, Oracle canceled between 300 and 400 racks previously ordered from Super Micro, with each unit valued at roughly $3.5 million. This implies a total contract value loss estimated between $1.1 billion and $1.4 billion.The report also suggested that Super Micro had already delivered between 100 and 200 racks before the cancellation occurred.



Cancellation linked to legal concerns



Industry sources cited by Bluefin indicated that the decision may be tied to the indictment of a Super Micro co-founder over allegations of illegally exporting AI GPUs to China.The research note added that Taiwanese manufacturer Wiwynn is believed to have taken over the rack business following the cancellation.



Slowing demand and product transition challenges



Bluefin also pointed to a slowdown in Super Micro’s xAI-related business after completing shipments of GB300 racks for the Colossus 2 data center earlier this year, with the next-generation Rubin platform still months away from launch.



Inventory concerns weigh on outlook



Additional concerns were raised about excess inventory of B200 GPUs. Supply chain sources described stock levels as “considerable,” according to the report.The inventory buildup was originally intended for xAI HGX AI server deployments, but demand shifted toward GB200 NVL72 systems as rack adoption accelerated in mid-2025. Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI) (“Supermicro” or the “Company”) today confirmed that an independent investigation is underway regarding the March 2026 indictment of three individuals who were associated with the Company at that time.


As previously disclosed, Supermicro was informed on March 19, 2026 that two employees and a contractor were indicted in connection with an alleged conspiracy to commit export-control violations. Supermicro is not named as a defendant in the indictment and is not accused of any wrongdoing. The Company took swift action, and the three individuals no longer have any relationship with Supermicro.


The investigation is being led by two independent members of the Company’s Board, Scott Angel, Lead Independent Director, and Tally Liu, Chair of the Board’s Audit Committee, who will report their findings and conclusions to the other four independent members of the Board. Mr. Angel, who joined Supermicro’s Board in 2025, spent nearly four decades in Deloitte’s Audit and Assurance practice, including 25 years as an Audit Partner. MTO, AlixPartners and the independent directors will work in close coordination with BDO USA, P.C., the Company’s auditor. MTO and AlixPartners will report their findings directly to Messrs. Angel and Liu.


The independent directors have not set a definitive timetable for the investigation. The Company will provide an update when the investigation is complete and does not intend to comment further until that time.


Concurrent with the initiation of the independent investigation, Supermicro initiated an internal review of its Global Trade Compliance Program. The internal review is being led by Yitai Hu, General Counsel and Senior Vice President. DeAnna Luna, the Company’s newly appointed acting Chief Compliance Officer, now reports to the General Counsel. All findings will be reported directly to the independent directors of the Board.

Stocks extended recent losses on Friday



Stocks fell sharply during Friday’s trading session, extending declines seen over the previous two days.
