                 Avocet Mining PLC ("Avocet" or the "Company")

                            Directors' Shareholdings



The Board of Avocet received notification on 10 April 2002 that Nigel McNair
Scott, a director of the Company, had purchased 225,000 Avocet shares. This
purchase takes Mr. McNair Scott's holding from 4,900,000 shares, representing
7.46% of the Company's issued ordinary share capital, to 5,125,000 shares,
representing 7.80% of the Company's issued ordinary share capital. The shares
were purchased at 11.5 pence per share on 10 April 2002.
