Caldeira Project Update on Environmental
25 August 2025
Licence Process
Meteoric Resources NL (ASX: MEI) (Meteoric or the Company) provides the following update on the approvals process for its Caldeira Ionic Clay Rare Earth Project in Brazil (Caldeira Project or the Project).
The Company is aware of Brazilian media reports about the voting outcome of a meeting of the Council of Management of the Pedra Branca Conservation Area (CONGEAPA) held in the city of Caldas last week. The vote was in relation to the consents required for the Caldeira Project to operate in the Buffer Zone of the Pedra Branca Conservation Area.
Meteoric has been informed that an irregularity occurred during a vote of the CONGEAPA whereby a member representing the Caldas Municipal Council for Environmental and Development (CODEMA) voted contrary to express written instructions, from the CODEMA body which he represents, to vote in favour of the consent. The Caldas City Hall has subsequently declared the vote invalid and the matter is under review.1 Advice from the Company’s legal and environmental advisors supports this position.
Meteoric has received written public support from the Caldas Mayor, Ailton Goulart, and the municipal body affected (CODEMA). The Company continues to work closely with the Mayor and the Municipal Bodies to ensure procedural compliance and a timely resolution.
The Company has also received written confirmation from the Minas Gerais Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that the vote of CONGEAPA will not impact the analysis of the Preliminary Environmental Permit (LP). The EPA have confirmed that their review of the Caldeira Project is at an advanced stage, and it is not expected that there will be any impact to timing for critical path items, including issuance of the LP.
The timeline for the development of the Caldeira Project remains on track and Meteoric continues to progress all key approval processes and workstreams, including development of a Pilot Plant, to ensure delivery of the Project.
Managing Director, Stuart Gale said:
“Meteoric continues to receive strong and unwavering support from all levels of Brazilian government. Whilst procedural irregularities can occur in the complex, multi-layered approval processes, the key point is the issues are quickly identified and corrected – as is the case here. Based upon a strong working relationship with the Mayor of Caldas, together with legal and environmental advice, Meteoric remains confident of Project timelines. This is further supported by the EPA confirming the LP approval timeline will not be affected, which provides a strong vote of confidence in the Project and reflects the importance which is placed on the Project in Brazil.
The Caldeira Project remains one of the highest-grade Ionic Absorption Clay (IAC) Rare Earth Element (REE) deposits in the world, with accompanying Magnetic Rare Earth Oxide recoveries of more than 50%.2"
This release has been approved by the Board of Meteoric Resources NL.

Meteoric Resources NL's (ASX:MEI) Shift From Loss To Profit
Simply Wall St
July 17, 2025
We feel now is a pretty good time to analyse Meteoric Resources NL's (ASX:MEI) business as it appears the company may be on the cusp of a considerable accomplishment. Meteoric Resources NL explores for mineral tenements in Brazil, Canada, Western Australia, and Northern Territory. The AU$351m market-cap company’s loss lessened since it announced a AU$45m loss in the full financial year, compared to the latest trailing-twelve-month loss of AU$37m, as it approaches breakeven. Many investors are wondering about the rate at which Meteoric Resources will turn a profit, with the big question being “when will the company breakeven?” We've put together a brief outline of industry analyst expectations for the company, its year of breakeven and its implied growth rate.
Meteoric Resources is bordering on breakeven, according to the 5 Australian Metals and Mining analysts. They anticipate the company to incur a final loss in 2027, before generating positive profits of AU$115m in 2028. The company is therefore projected to breakeven around 3 years from today. In order to meet this breakeven date, we calculated the rate at which the company must grow year-on-year. It turns out an average annual growth rate of 82% is expected, which is rather optimistic! If this rate turns out to be too aggressive, the company may become profitable much later than analysts predict.
ASX:MEI Earnings Per Share Growth July 17th 2025
Underlying developments driving Meteoric Resources' growth isn’t the focus of this broad overview, but, take into account that by and large a metal and mining business has lumpy cash flows which are contingent on the natural resource mined and stage at which the company is operating. This means that a high growth rate is not unusual, especially if the company is currently in an investment period.
One thing we’d like to point out is that Meteoric Resources has no debt on its balance sheet, which is quite unusual for a cash-burning metals and mining company, which usually has a high level of debt relative to its equity. This means that the company has been operating purely on its equity investment and has no debt burden. This aspect reduces the risk around investing in the loss-making company.

Meteoric to use MTM’s FJH technology at Brazilian rare earth project
The technology has demonstrated the ability to separate more than 80% of low-value material in a single flash from ionic clay REE projects.
June 18, 2025
MTM Critical Metals has signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Meteoric Resources NL to improve the processing of mixed rare earth carbonate (MREC) from the latter’s Caldeira rare earth project in Brazil.
This partnership aims to utilise the flash joule heating (FJH) technology developed by MTM's US subsidiary, Flash Metals USA.
The FJH technology has shown positive results in concentrating valuable magnet and key heavy rare earth elements (REEs) such as neodymium, praseodymium, dysprosium and terbium.
It has demonstrated the ability to separate more than 80% of low-value material in a single flash and recover 81% of terbium without the need for acids or solvents.
The FJH process has the potential to simplify typically complex and expensive rare earth processing. The technology is expected to offer “a potential breakthrough alternative” to the processing, which is currently dominated by Chinese-controlled infrastructure.
MTM managing director and CEO Michael Walshe said: "Our proof-of-concept work on Meteoric's MREC clearly shows the transformative potential of Flash Joule Heating.
"In a single flash we shifted the product mix decisively toward the high-value magnet rare earths, dramatically lifting material value while stripping out waste. Subsequent multi-flash runs are anticipated to further improve performance. We believe that our process offers what could become the first Western, chloride-based upgrading route for ionic-clay feedstocks."
This technology could dramatically reduce capital and operating costs, as well as deployment time frames, supporting the development of western supply chains.
Rare earth processing generally involves multi-stage solvent extraction, which can include hundreds or thousands of mixer-settler stages. However, the FJH technology delivers comparable results to these traditional methods but is faster, simpler and can be deployed modularly.
Developed at Rice University, Flash Metals USA has the exclusive licensing rights to the FJH technology.
This innovative approach is expected to transform the downstream processing of MREC, propelling the Caldera rare earth project towards commercialization and potentially reducing reliance on established offshore solvent extraction refineries.
The Caldeira project comprises 69 licences (with total landholdings over 193km²) in the south-west of Minas Gerais State in Brazil, close to the city of Poços de Caldas.
The project produces outstanding metallurgical recoveries depending on high-grade feed and by using a simple process with low technical risk and high environmental credentials.
In March 2025, MTM Critical Metals signed an MoU with Vedanta, an aluminium production company, to explore alumina waste recycling.
"Meteoric to use MTM’s FJH technology at Brazilian rare earth project" was originally created and published by Mining Technology, a GlobalData owned brand.
