NRG’s Choose to Give program launched at CHOP in December 2016.
To date, NRG has contributed more than $4.2 million through the
program, funding more than 30 projects and research initiatives led
by experts in CHOP’s Cardiac Center.
“We at the Cardiac Center are so grateful for NRG and their
customers’ ongoing support, which allows us to continue to innovate
and push the boundaries of new therapies for our patients and their
families,” said Dr. Jonathan M. Chen, Co-Director of the Cardiac
Center at CHOP.
Contributions from the program help support innovative cardiac
research and advanced care for children with heart disease,
including the development of new treatments for pulmonary
hypertension, a wireless remote monitoring program to monitor all
cardiac patients with implantable electronic devices, cutting-edge
imaging techniques to improve surgical and interventional outcomes
for valve repair in single ventricle patients, and specialized
communication training to help clinicians better communicate with
patient families.
When NRG customers enroll through the Choose to Give electricity
plan, NRG contributes $50 to CHOP. In addition, NRG contributes one
percent of each customer’s electricity supply charges to CHOP
annually for as long as the customer remains on the plan. Besides
helping children’s health, those who enroll will get the peace of
mind that comes with locking in a predictable electricity supply
price for 12 months.
“The success of this program reflects how important CHOP is to
our customers and the communities it serves,” said Mike Rombach,
Vice President and General Manager of NRG Home. “When customers
enroll in the Choose to Give program, they are making a simple but
impactful decision to support the vital work of CHOP’s Cardiac
Center. We are proud to offer our customers a way to help secure a
healthy future for kids with the flip of a switch.”
Since 2017, NRG’s Choose to Give program has empowered customers
to support local nonprofits simply through paying their electricity
bills. To date, NRG and its customers have contributed more than
$15 million to local organizations across the country through this
program.
