Peru Copper appoints new Chief Financial Officer

VANCOUVER, July 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Peru Copper Inc.
(TSX:PCR / AMEX:CUP / BVL:CUP) ("Peru Copper" or the "Company") is
pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. H. Eric Peitz to the
position of Chief Financial Officer of the Company. Mr. Peitz's
appointment will become effective August 1st, 2006. Since 1998 Mr.
Peitz has been employed by Doe Run Peru S.R.L (Lima, Peru), an
international natural resource company focused on the mining,
smelting, recycling and fabrication of metals. Most recently he was
the Vice President of Finance and Administration where he was
responsible for all accounting, budgeting, tax, and treasury
functions, strategic planning and logistics. He was also involved
in regional and national Peruvian government negotiations regarding
environmental and social issues. Mr. Peitz is a Certified Public
Accountant with a Master of Business Administration in Finance from
the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, Colorado and a
Bachelor of Science in Engineering from the United States Military
Academy, West Point, New York. Charles G. Preble, President and CEO

June 11, 2003, Peru Copper entered into the Toromocho Option
Agreement ("Toromocho Option") with Empresa Minera del Centro del
Peru S.A. ("Centromin"), a Peruvian state-owned mining company,
whereby Centromin granted the Company the option to acquire its
interest in the mining concessions and related assets of the
