In a move almost unheard of in the banking world, The National
Capital Bank of Washington (NCB) announced today that it won’t be
increasing any fees for the 5th consecutive year. And even more
startling, the Bank is even eliminating fees!
After a careful review of its accounts and fee structures,
National Capital Bank decided that raising fees would do very
little to impact the Bank’s bottom line in comparison with what it
would lose in customer confidence and respect.
NCB surveyed banks in the D.C. Metro Area and found that the
average overdraft fee is $32. At $26, the National Capital Bank
currently charges $5 less than the average and will continue to
stay at this level. In addition, NCB has now made its Auto Flex
product available to all checking account customers without cost. Auto Flex provides automatic
overdraft protection by sweeping money from a connected account if
a customer were to overdraw an account. Previously this service was
only available to the Bank’s Platinum Checking customers and
included a $5 fee per sweep. Now all customers who have a second
account at National Capital Bank are eligible to receive this
coverage at no cost.
“We know times are tough and many people are facing financial
hardships. We wanted to make it easier for our customers to manage
their accounts and avoid expensive ‘gotcha’ fees,” says James M.
Didden, NCB President and Director. “It has always been our policy
to offer quality products at honest prices. This is just one more
way we can live up to our customers’ expectations.”
The National Capital Bank, Washington’s Oldest Bank, was founded
in 1889 and has been managed by the Didden family for 122 years.
NCB has assets of $350 million and is headquartered on Capitol Hill
with a second branch located in Friendship Heights. The bank has
been recognized over the last decade with numerous accolades for
its safety and soundness, exceptional performance, and for being
named the best bank in DC for small business loans. In addition,
the Bank is also recognized as one of the top banks and thrifts, a
100-year old small business of the year, and top commercial lender.
NCB trades under the symbol NACB. For more information about NCB,
