That's a good point because the T5 news letters definitely say Carbonate. I went back and looked and I recall IBAT saying they will produce Chloride. So I questioned CoPilot about this and Copilot says: Offtake agreements almost always specify the final marketed product, not the intermediate product produced at the wellsite. It went on to say this: T5 will produce lithium chloride using a modular DLE system (likely IBAT), Glencore will take that LiCl and convert it into lithium carbonate through its own refining network, and the offtake agreement is written in terms of the final marketed product (carbonate), not the intermediate product (chloride). This is exactly how nearly every modern DLE offtake is structured. CoPilot is thinking it's normal operation for Glencore to accept/purchase Chloride and then they use their own resources/network to refine it.

I guess maybe it's just one of those standard agreement ways of stating things that makes it seem misaligned? Either way, I bet eventually they would want to have that refinement in their hub but I suspect that's a big investment and time hit so they probably want to start fast and low-risk with just Chloride and use 3rd party refiners until they get deeper into production, then maybe upgrade the hub late.

At least to me, it sounds like brine validation is probably complete with whoever we are working with (hopefully that's T5), especially since we got a testing update. Just a guess on my part. I suppose the next box to check is commercial terms (lease, buy, share?) but maybe this is complete too for all we know. Off-taker box looks to be checked. So what's left before we get an announcement? Permits, permit, permits, and a joint message between IBAT and the customer? Given that Glencore signed an offtake makes me think permitting is well underway for T5, DLE vendor is locked, they know the tech can run on geothermal, and the timeline to production looks good. All a guess on my part but makes sense in my mind. I'm really hoping we are nearing an announcement.

Man the tech T5 is using to provide Glencore with Lithium sure quacks like a duck...

I kinda wish for a merger now with IBATF + EnergyX at this point, if no contract happens soon with T5 or Exxon. That merger could combine X’s membrane tech, IBAT’s modular DLE and proprietary media, ready to deploy now on existing X Smackover resource, and X builds their Lonestar refinement plant…fast, lowest cost, end to end solution all in one entity and could play in direct production along side Exxon, Chevron, and SLI.
