National Bank Cuts Ur-Energy's Price Target to US$16 from US$17

10:58 AM EDT, 06/10/2026 (MT Newswires) -- National Bank of Canada on Tuesday lowered Ur-Energy's (URE.TO) price target to US$16 from $17 with an outperform rating.

National Bank updated its model to reflect Ur-Energy's weaker-than-expected operating results in the third quarter of fiscal 2026.

The bank reduced its near-term production estimates for Ur-Energy across the Wyoming hub to reflect the production rates to date and the development progress of header houses required to enable an increase in production.

National Bank also applied a more conservative ramp at Ur-Energy's Texas hub.

The company's total net asset value fell 5% to $9.95 per share from $10.47 per share, driven by the lower volume, higher costs, and our slight reduction in the in-situ value attributed to the U.S. assets to reflect higher costs, according to the bank.

Ur-Energy traded at $2.18 per share at last look Wednesday on the Toronto Stock Exchange.

Shares of Ur-Energy (NYSEMKT: URG) are on fire today, soaring 23% as of Tuesday noon.

There's no earnings report and no corporate updates. Instead, a multi-billion-dollar announcement just dropped elsewhere in the industry, and investors believe this single move could reshape the U.S. nuclear supply chain, instantly turning attention to Ur-Energy.

The uranium enrichment and Ur-Energy link
Urenco, a global supplier of uranium enrichment services and owned jointly by the U.K. and Dutch governments and two German utilities, has announced a multi-billion plan to expand capacity by nearly 50% at the only commercial uranium enrichment facility in the U.S.

So what does this have to do with Ur-Energy?

The thing is, natural uranium that's mined from the ground contains a minuscule amount of fissionable isotope and therefore has to be "enriched" further at facilities like Urenco's to make it usable for nuclear reactors.

These enrichment facilities cannot operate without a steady stream of raw uranium feedstock. That means Urenco's expanded facility will require large amounts of uranium, effectively giving domestic miners a large, long-term customer right in their own backyard.

Ur-Energy mines and processes uranium at its Lost Creek mine, and recently started mining at its Shirley Basin project in Wyoming. It's a historic restart as Shirley Basin has been suspended since the 1990s. That's one big reason investors view Ur-Energy as an immediate beneficiary of the massive upcoming enrichment pipeline from Urenco.

What this means for Ur-Energy investors
Urenco's announcement also has broader implications for the U.S. uranium industry, as Urenco's capacity expansion comes at a critical turning point when the U.S. is preparing to completely ban all Russian uranium imports from Jan. 1, 2028. With two flagship uranium assets in Wyoming's Great Divide Basin, Ur-Energy has the potential to become an important supplier for an expanding domestic market provided it can execute.

Urenco USA said it will expand the United States' only commercial uranium-enrichment facility by nearly 50%, a multibillion-dollar project aimed at bolstering domestic nuclear fuel supply and backed by long-term U.S. customer contracts.
The Eunice, New Mexico site is set to add 2.1 million separative work units, or SWU, through gas-centrifuge technology, taking annual capacity to 6.4 million SWU from 4.3 million. Urenco said the first cascades should start operating in 2032, with additional units installed through 2036.

Urenco's plan comes as a U.S. ban on enriched-uranium imports from Russia moves toward a full 2028 takeover, while Russia still supplies up to a quarter of U.S. uranium needs. Investors responded quickly: uranium names including Cameco (NYSE:CCJ) and Energy Fuels (UUUU) moved higher, while Ur-Energy (URG) jumped 22.8%, Uranium Energy (UEC) rose 13.6%, Oklo (OKLO) gained 9.8% and Centrus Energy (NYSE:LEU) added 5.3%.

Construction of the plant building is well advanced, with all ion exchange columns installed and key tanks set. Remaining interior construction, commissioning of production circuits, and construction of phase two infrastructure are expected to progress through 2026, followed by the ramp-up of operations.Pending approvals from the WDEQ, Header House 1-1 is ready to be brought online to commence injection in and recovery from the wellfield. Development of additional header houses in Mine Unit 1 is ongoing, positioning the project for production operations and phased production growth as commissioning progresses.The wellfield data package for Mine Unit 1 is currently under review by the WDEQ, which also began its pre-operational inspection in late February 2026. Additional site visits are expected as the inspection process continues. Following completion of the inspection and regulatory review, we expect approval to begin recovery from the wellfield and collection of uranium onto resin in the plant.Drilling activity continues at a strong pace. Through February 2026, the Company has pilot drilled 469 injection and production wells in Mine Unit 1, currently supported by eight active drill rigs. With delineation drilling completed historically, activity is focused on efficient development and construction to support near-term production.Shirley Basin has a licensed wellfield capacity of one million pounds of U3O8 per year. Total annual production from wellfield recovery and toll processing is permitted at up to two million pounds U3O8 equivalent. Shirley Basin is designed as a satellite operation, with loaded resin to be transported to Lost Creek for processing. We expect to be able to commence transporting loaded resin to Lost Creek for processing, drying, and drumming in summer 2026, subject to the receipt of additional regulatory approvals.Staffing at Shirley Basin is substantially complete, with a focus on training and operational readiness. Leveraging Ur-Energy's operating experience at Lost Creek, the Company expects a disciplined ramp-up as Shirley Basin transitions into production, providing a second U.S. ISR production platform and meaningful growth in overall uranium output.Expanded Exploration Programs to Advance the Development PipelineLost Soldier ProjectIn 2025, the Company renewed exploration in Wyoming's Great Divide Basin, advancing the Lost Soldier Project with the installation of aquifer test wells to support ISR evaluation. Aquifer testing is scheduled to begin in March 2026, followed by baseline environmental studies to support potential permitting. Located approximately 17 miles from the Lost Creek plant, Lost Soldier offers possible satellite development optionality by leveraging existing infrastructure. Work is also underway on a technical report for the project.North Hadsell and LC South ExplorationDrilling at the North Hadsell Project in the Great Divide Basin continues to deliver encouraging early results from the ongoing 50-hole program. Through February 2026, we have drilled 32 wide-spaced holes at North Hadsell totaling 32,965 feet, including seven holes intersecting significant uranium mineralization with 13 intercepts exceeding 0.20 GT. These grades and thicknesses closely resemble the mineralization at Lost Creek, where the Company applies a 0.20 GT cut-off in evaluating economic mineral resources.Results also suggest the presence of multiple stacked roll-front horizons comparable to those at the Company's producing Lost Creek ISR mine, supporting ISR recovery potential.
