SAN FRANCISCO, March 18, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Interactive
streaming engine Genvid Technologies (Genvid) today announced a new
joint R&D effort with Limelight Networks (NASDAQ: LLNW), a
leading provider of edge cloud services, combining the breakthrough
Limelight Realtime Streaming solution with Genvid's interactive
capabilities to enable any game developer or media company to build
their own realtime interactive streaming platforms.
Information on the partnership will be discussed for the first
time at Genvid's GDC Session Interactive Streaming and the
Future of Media on 3/20 at 10:30am in Moscone West Hall 3009.
The goal of this R&D is to enable any developer or
broadcaster worldwide to operate their own interactive broadcast
platform, with Genvid providing game engine integration and web
APIs, and Limelight providing a scaled, stable and secure streaming
solution at ultra low (sub-second) latency.
Until now, such interactive streaming services were only offered
as direct-to-consumer (D2C) platforms by large tech companies; the
Genvid and Limelight end-to-end solution is intended for developers
who want to own customer relationships and build their own D2C
platforms, apps and in-game capabilities.
Early testing between Genvid and Limelight engineers has
resulted in incredibly rich game data and interactivity
synchronized to video frames, allowing users to interact with a
game through a stream as though it was running locally.
Fundamentally different from cloud gaming (oriented toward
players), an interactive broadcast solution at sub-second latency
will allow for incredibly rich viewer and participant interactions
into the types of new media being developed by creators using
Genvid's SDK (also announced by Genvid at GDC this year), and
across devices.
"The Genvid SDK serves the interactive broadcast needs of game
developers and media companies, many of whom are building new
experiences built from the ground up for streaming," says Genvid
CEO Jacob Navok. "We are excited to
work with Limelight Networks on a disruptive new offering in the
space, an end-to-end streaming solution with realtime interactive
capabilities, built for the 5G future."
"The future of games and media are merging and the ability for
truly live interactive experiences is critical," says Stephanie Gaines, Senior Director of Product
Management at Limelight Networks. "Limelight Realtime Streaming is
best-in-class, global, and supports sub-second streaming using
standard web browsers. With Genvid's game engine interactivity and
data feeds, this combined solution will enable the next generation
of content from developers and broadcasters."
