The Tuskegee Airmen, America’s first black military pilots, and
WASP, pioneering women who served in the U.S. Air Force with
tremendous distinction, have a unique blend of history, legacy, and
modern application that the RISE ABOVE exhibit inspires to the
communities it visits. Bringing together local organizations,
community leaders and dignitaries, and community members, RISE
ABOVE provides education for people of all ages on how the stories
of the Airmen and WASP are applicable today.
The exhibit, which is free to enter and held at the Manassas
Airport, will feature RISE ABOVE’s mobile movie theater which has a
panoramic screen and shows films on the history of the Tuskegee
Airmen and WASP, detailing the obstacles they overcame in order to
fly and fight for America while giving viewers the feeling of
sitting in the cockpit of a fighter plane. Additionally, the
Tuskegee Airmen’s iconic “Red Tail” P-51 Mustang will be on display
for visitors. As part of the event, a raffle sponsored, in part by
John Marshall Bank, will be held to give a visitor the chance to
take part in history and fly in the Mustang with a member of RISE
ABOVE.
RISE ABOVE aims to provide the communities it visits with the
same sense of perseverance and courage that the Airmen and WASP had
as they faced every obstacle in their way with hard work and
dedication. This community focus aligns with the Bank’s goal of
enriching the communities it serves and the Bank is honored to be
among the organizations bringing this historic event to Prince
William County.
