Hitachi Data Systems, provider of Application Optimized Storage(TM) solutions, and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd. (NYSE:HIT), today introduced new capabilities and upgrades to the Storage Services Manager component of its HiCommand(R) Suite to provide significantly improved application optimization and simplified storage infrastructure management. To date, HiCommand Storage Services Manager has been implemented in hundreds of customer environments. The latest enhancements enable customers to gain cost savings and a more efficient use of existing IT resources with improved capacity planning, specified quality of service levels for applications, and automated reporting combined with overall ease-of-use. "The advances of the HiCommand management system have been phenomenal," said Roman Graminger, Abt. IDR, for Team Storage & SAN, MAN Nutzfahrzeuge AG, Munich, Germany. "Using tools such as HiCommand Storage Services Manager, we have been able to automate reports that used to take days to prepare manually as well as getting a better understanding of SAN and future requirements." HiCommand Storage Services Manager and other heterogeneous management components of HiCommand are based on the AppIQ StorageAuthority(R) Suite. "AppIQ is pleased to continue its partnership with Hitachi Data Systems to offer the most robust and scalable data lifecycle management capabilities that meet the ever-changing needs of enterprises," said Ash Ashutosh, chief technical officer, AppIQ. "Our combined technologies give customers the opportunity to simplify storage needs in heterogeneous environments. By providing integrated functionality, AppIQ and Hitachi Data Systems are able to deliver an integrated, standards-built platform to customers that facilitate operational efficiency and maximize IT Infrastructure ROI." "Today's announcement reflects our continued commitment to help our customers optimize the storage infrastructure for applications," said Jack Domme, vice president, storage management software, Hitachi Data Systems. "Our partnership with AppIQ and the newly released HiCommand Tiered Storage Manager are leading the industry in providing the optimum tiered storage environment to meet the dynamic needs of applications and the ever changing value of data around cost, performance and availability." New Additions and Upgrades to the HiCommand Suite Hitachi Data Systems continued its commitment to support Microsoft environments and applications. Today the company also announced the new HiCommand QoS for SQL Server, an upgraded release of HiCommand QoS for Exchange, and base product support for Windows Dynamic Disk for Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003. With this new release, Hitachi Data Systems continues to move 'upstack' from block and volume management tools into file system level tools. All of the following new and enhanced products are heterogeneous storage area management components of the HiCommand Suite. -- HiCommand(R) QoS for SQL Server automatically discovers SQL databases, devices, and files, and graphically depicts their dependencies on the SAN, represented in a single, integrated view. These powerful path management capabilities, combined with real-time performance monitoring features, enable users to predict the impact of planned and unplanned SAN downtime on SQL applications and determine where in the SAN "stack" performance is being impacted. -- HiCommand(R) QoS for NetApp intuitively discovers Network Appliance storage resources, while collecting a wide range of NetApp capacity, performance, and configuration details, graphically mapping the integrated SAN and NAS topology in a single, unified view. Powerful path and dependency management capabilities enable users to quickly predict the impact of NetApp events on their business, while the real-time monitoring capabilities enable customers to maximize performance and utilization. Upgraded products include: -- HiCommand Storage Service Manager 4.0, HiCommand Path Provisioning Manager 4.0, HiCommand QoS for Exchange 4.0, HiCommand QoS for Sybase 4.0, HiCommand QoS for Oracle 4.0, HiCommand QoS for File Servers 4.0, HiCommand Chargeback 4.0 and HiCommand Global Reporter 4.0, which not only provide added vendor and device support within both Hitachi and heterogeneous environments, but also represent the continued integration between HiCommand Storage Services Manager and other HiCommand modules. Today's software innovations were announced at the leading industry conference Gartner PlanetStorage Summit 2005, with availability scheduled for Q3 2005. Hitachi Data Systems representatives will be available to answer questions regarding the HiCommand Suite along with the company's other product offerings at the event, which runs from June 13-16th in Orlando, Florida.
