              Comment on recent press speculation
                               


The  Directors of Avocet Mining PLC ("Avocet") have noted  the
article in the Investors Chronicle published last Friday, that
Avocet  is to use the proceeds from its proposed rights  issue
(announced  on  5  March 1998) to buy the  Mitersill  tungsten
mine.  Whilst Avocet has held talks with the mine's owners  in
the past, an agreement was not reached.

Avocet will be announcing final details of the proposed rights
issue shortly.
