             PLACING OF 3,249,466 ORDINARY SHARES

The  board  of  Avocet announces that at  its  annual  general
meeting  held  on  20  August 1997 shareholders  approved  the
private  placing  announced  on  25  July  1997  of  3,249,466
ordinary  shares  at  165p  per share.   The  shares  will  be
allotted, as previously announced, as follows:

     Westgate International Limited Partnership*       849,466
     Jocelyn Waller*                                   455,000
     PS Holdings Ltd*                                  245,000
     Invesco Asset Management*                         200,000
