("Filament"), is highlighting newly published clinical research that may signal an important shift in the evolution of psychedelic medicine, from single-use interventions toward repeatable, protocol-driven treatment models.

A Phase 1 clinical study published in April 2026 in Frontiers in Public Health (link here), conducted under U.S. FDA Investigational New Drug authorization as an investigator-initiated study led by Dr. Anthony Back at the University of Washington evaluated the effects of a second psilocybin-assisted therapy session in patients with metastatic cancer who had only partially responded to an initial treatment. The results showed that a second guided session produced meaningful improvements in psychological outcomes, suggesting that a second experience at a higher dose and no antidepressant tapering may be beneficial for partial responders.

This study is a follow-on to earlier clinical research conducted by Dr. Anthony Back, which evaluated the group-based psilocybin-assisted therapy model using Filament's botanical candidate, PEX010 (https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/28314425251413856). Both of Dr Back's studies were funded by the Steven and Alexandra Cohen Foundation, with Filament Health providing the PEX010 psilocybin capsules.

Patients in the study experienced clinically significant reductions in anxiety and depression, with mean Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) scores improving from 15.08 at baseline to 9.00 within eight days following the second session, with benefits sustained for up to 24 weeks. Notably, 69% of participants fell below the clinical threshold for anxiety and depression after the second treatment. The proportion of participants reporting a "complete mystical experience" (a factor often associated with stronger therapeutic outcomes) increased from 38% during the first session to 77% in the second. Improvements in social connection, psychological well-being, and group cohesion were also observed and persisted for several months. No serious adverse events were reported, even with higher dosing and optional booster administration.

The study was conducted using a structured group retreat model that included preparatory sessions, supervised dosing, and integration support, with cohorts of up to eight participants. This format is increasingly relevant as the industry looks for ways to reduce costs and expand access, particularly given the significant time and resource requirements associated with traditional one-on-one psychedelic therapy. The authors concluded that a partial response to an initial psilocybin experience should not be considered treatment failure and that retreatment and dose optimization may play a meaningful role in improving patient outcomes.

A psychedelic used in some countries to treat post-traumatic stress disorder is expected to get a closer examination from the federal government on its safety and effectiveness, sources told CBS News.

The White House is drafting an executive order that would signal the Trump administration's willingness to further U.S. research into a drug called ibogaine.

Ibogaine, a naturally occurring compound from a shrub native to Africa, is used to treat depression, anxiety, addiction, post-traumatic stress disorder and brain trauma.

Because it's illegal in the United States, Americans have been traveling to unregulated clinics, often in Mexico or the Caribbean, to take the drug.

The Trump administration doesn't plan to reclassify the drug for medical use at this time — it will remain a Schedule I drug.

President Trump intends to sign the executive order as soon as this week, two of the sources said.

White House spokespeople didn't immediately comment.

The action on ibogaine is meant to open the door to federal funding for further research on its effectiveness with PTSD and traumatic brain injuries, especially among veterans, several sources said.

"60 Minutes" last year covered a group of nine U.S. veterans who traveled to a remote village near Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, for a week-long psychedelic retreat to deal with intrusive memories.

Texas has made a big push to study ibogaine. Gov. Greg Abbott last year signed a bill approving $50 million for research.

Trump officials said the medical research into ibogaine is in an early phase, but the administration wants to help determine whether it's "snake oil" or a legitimate treatment, one official said.

As a Schedule I substance, ibogaine is currently grouped by the Drug Enforcement Administration alongside heroin, ecstasy and other drugs that have "no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse."

It was unclear how the federal government would help facilitate further research — strategies were still being hammered out in internal discussions this week.

Researchers say ibogaine could eventually fill a gap in addiction treatment, particularly for opioid dependence, but more large-scale clinical trials are needed before it can be considered safe or effective for any condition.

The scientific evidence behind the drug so far consists mostly of small observational studies and open-label trials. Only one double-blind, placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial has been completed. More advanced trials are just now getting underway.

The most serious risk is to the heart. Ibogaine can cause dangerous heart rhythm disturbances, which can be fatal. A review in 2023 of 24 studies involving 705 people found that while ibogaine appeared to reduce withdrawal symptoms and craving, toxicity to the heart and risk of death were "worrying." At least 27 people have died after taking ibogaine, the 2023 report showed.

In a small study of 30 veterans who received ibogaine paired with intravenous magnesium to protect the heart, no serious cardiac events were reported. The study, which was published last July by Stanford Medicine, found that the drug safely reduces post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety and depression in veterans when combined with magnesium to protect the heart. But with only 30 people and no placebo group, there is far too little evidence to know whether magnesium reliably reduces the risk.

The international clinics where Americans currently receive ibogaine operate without U.S. regulatory oversight. There is no standardized heart screening, no required monitoring protocol and no obligation to report adverse events.

The AEM board has also initiated the process to find a realtor with the aim of listing the commercial property for sale in New Brunswick in the near future.AEM Ontario (Peterborough): The Company remains in advanced discussions with a group that has formally confirmed its interest to purchase 100 percent of the rights to the farmland, plans, and permits, for an estimated price of $2.5m to $2.6m. However, no definitive agreement has been entered into, and any potential transaction would be subject to due diligence, negotiation of definitive documentation and customary closing conditions. Todd Shapiro was a co-host on The Dean Blundell Show on CFNY-FM (102.1 The Edge, Toronto).

On November 13, 2012, the show discussed a fistfight at a Toronto Remembrance Day ceremony where protestors were voicing opposition to Canada’s military involvement in Afghanistan.

The hosts — Dean Blundell, Todd Shapiro, and Derek Welsman — interviewed a man (“Logan”) who admitted to attacking a protestor.

Broadcast Content

The hosts repeatedly expressed approval for Logan’s actions, making comments such as:

“Oh, you dummied him!”

“Good for him!”

“Thanks for doin’ that”

“Good ol’ Canadian boy!”

They asked Logan if his girlfriend rewarded him sexually for the assault (“Did you get laid after that?”).

They referred to female protestors as “bitches” and “skanks” and wished that larger women had “dummied them too.”

Complaint & Review

A listener complained, arguing that the comments could provoke violence against protestors in the future.

CFNY-FM defended the broadcast, noting that Blundell had at one point said, “I don’t suggest people go around beating up protestors.”

The complainant rejected this defense, stressing the irresponsibility of the hosts and the potential harm caused.

CBSC Findings (Decision 12/13-0454, July 17, 2013)

The Ontario Regional Panel found that the broadcast sanctioned, promoted, and glamorized violence, breaching Clause 9(a) of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) Code of Ethics.

The Panel highlighted that [hosts] praising Logan’s attack and framing it as “vigilante justice” amounted to encouraging violence.

The CBSC did not find a breach for:

Use of the words “bitches” and “skanks” (deemed “mild swear words” acceptable on air).

Alleged discriminatory comments, since no identifiable group was targeted directly.

Required Actions

CFNY-FM was ordered to broadcast announcements during peak hours acknowledging the violation.

The broadcaster had to provide written confirmation and aircheck copies to the CBSC.
