Companies win first cable multi-service operator (MSO) customer;
Joint solution enables operators to move beyond 'triple-play' with
advanced, fully-converged service offerings REDWOOD CITY, Calif.,
Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Ubiquity Software, a subsidiary of Avaya
Inc., and CGI Group Inc. (TSX: GIB.A; NYSE: GIB) today introduced a
joint initiative to develop and deliver converged voice, video and
data services over Next-Generation Networks (NGN). The outcome of
this strategic reseller agreement will enable communications
service providers and enterprises worldwide to launch converged
services to consumers and corporate users quickly and seamlessly.
Negotiations with the venture's first client, a top cable MSO with
operations in North America, have been completed and development
work is currently underway. Ubiquity and CGI through their
IPCentricITy(TM) practice will jointly market and implement the
Ubiquity Session Initiation Protocol Application Server (SIP A/S).
CGI will lead the custom software application development and
integration, leveraging its extensive network, billing and
operational integration experience to reduce the time required to
deploy these advanced applications on the Ubiquity SIP A/S
platform. The Ubiquity SIP A/S enables the creation and delivery of
converged voice, video and data services over Next-Generation
Networks (NGN) including IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) and
PacketCable(TM) networks, enabling customers to deploy innovative
services today while future-proofing these new application
investments. "We believe that CGI and Ubiquity are well positioned
to assist our customers to more rapidly adopt next generation
services," said Allison Mcafrey, vice president and
IPCentricITy(TM) practice lead for CGI. "CGI's foundation
applications, customization and integration capabilities, combined
with Ubiquity's best-in-class SIP platform, allow our joint
customers to speed time-to-market for next-generation services and
maximize their return on investment." "CGI's global footprint and
recognized leadership in systems integration in the communications
industry makes them a highly-complementary partner to Ubiquity, and
a valuable resource to our mutual customers," said Ian McLaren,
president and CEO of Avaya's Ubiquity Software subsidiary.
"Together, CGI and Ubiquity offer a compelling solution - the
intelligent communications platform and SIP applications expertise
needed to meet the requirements for large scale deployments within
complex networks and architectures. Our recent win in the cable MSO
market is a testament to the reliability and value of our joint
solution." CGI has developed a suite of proof-of-concept
applications for the Ubiquity SIP A/S that demonstrate a broad
range of capabilities across fixed, wireless and converged
networks. The CGI applications include: -- TV Manager -- Find-me
Follow-me -- VIP Do Not Disturb -- Presence Based Routing -- Home
Surveillance -- Virtual Nanny (Dial-a-cam) -- Cellular to VoIP Hot
Transfer -- Ring-Back Tones -- Click-to-Dial Ubiquity and CGI will
both be exhibiting at the upcoming CableLabs(R) Summer Conference
taking place August 5 - 8, 2007 at The Keystone Resort and
Conference Center in Keystone, Colorado. The companies will be
demonstrating the Ubiquity SIP Application Server (SIP A/S) and a
selection of proof-of- concept applications that highlight the
advanced capabilities of the SIP A/S as well as the innovative
applications that will form the basis for next generation services.
