New ranking is cited in the Association's flagship publication
BASKING RIDGE, N.J., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Avaya announced that a
new ranking of research institutions published in The Association
of Computing Machinery's (ACM) flagship magazine, Communications of
the ACM (CACM), recognizes Avaya Labs Research as one of the finest
software engineering institutions globally. ACM is the world's
oldest and largest educational and scientific computing society.
The CACM rankings, which appeared in the June issue, placed Avaya
Labs Research among the world's top 50 academic and commercial
software engineering institutions, trailing only IBM's Thomas J.
Watson Research Center among commercial institutions cited for
excellence. The rankings were based on an analysis of Avaya's
published papers in the most respected ACM and IEEE software
engineering journals and conferences from 2000 through 2004. The
criteria were developed by Jie Ren, a software engineer at Google,
Inc. and Richard N. Taylor, director of the Institute for Software
Research at the University of California, Irvine. In addition,
Audris Mockus of Avaya was ranked ninth on the list of the top 50
software engineering scholars for the same period, for his work in
understanding how to measure software quality and other key
outcomes of software development processes. "This recognition of
Avaya Labs Research for excellence in software engineering in CACM
reflects Avaya's commitment to innovative software solutions that
are shaping the future of enterprise communications," said Ravi
Sethi, president, Avaya Labs Research. About ACM ACM, the
