Today, the Citizens for a New Delaware Way Political Action
Committee (CNDW) released the results of a poll of likely
Democratic Delaware voters showing a majority of Delaware’s
Democratic voters believe Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long
should suspend her campaign amid a series of ethics scandals around
her campaign finance practices.
The poll found the recent bombshell revelations that Bethany
Hall-Long broke Delaware law dozens of times by submitting
inaccurate and misleading campaign finance statements have shaken
the race up with just a month to go before the Primary.
The survey found 51% of registered Democrats believe she should
end her bid for Governor, following her failure to disclose
hundreds of thousands of dollars in loans and payments to herself
and her husband from the campaign, and her acceptance of tens of
thousands of donations over the legal limit from unregistered
organizations. Hall-Long’s husband also allegedly stole contact
lists of Section 8 housing recipients to pressure them to vote for
her.
As a result, just 32% believe her campaign should continue.
Asked how they would vote if the Primary was held today, 27% of
Democrats chose Meyer, 23% chose Hall-Long, 11% chose Collin
O’Mara, and 31% remained undecided.
Beyond the widespread media coverage of Hall-Long’s scandals,
the poll also comes following CNDW’s launch of a media campaign to
change Delaware’s status quo and increase visibility of Hall-Long's
ethical lapses.
Said PAC Spokesperson Chris Coffey, “This Lieutenant
Governor’s record speaks for itself: she can’t be trusted to manage
her own campaign’s finances, she can’t be trusted with opioid
relief funding, and she can’t be trusted to do anything to break
the cycle of the same old ‘Delaware Way’ that has broken this
state’s government. After just a few weeks of our ads on the air
and our mail hitting inboxes, it’s encouraging to see voters are
hearing that message clearly. In the last stretch of this campaign
we’re going to double down on these efforts to make sure as many
Democrats as possible understand what’s at stake in this
election.”
The PAC plans to spend heavily on ads on TV and streaming
services, as well as direct mail and grassroots field operations in
the coming weeks.
Citizens for a New Delaware Way is a registered political action
committee that has raised $1 million to address the state’s
failures in promoting judicial diversity and transparency. CNDW is
advocating for a more transparent, accountable, diverse, and
inclusive state government and court system. Because of this, they
are not supporting Hall-Long’s candidacy which not only maintains
the elitist ‘Delaware Way’ but has been riddled with illegal and
deceptive behavior.
The survey, conducted by Slingshot Strategies, sampled 500
registered voters with a margin of error of 4.4%.
