Yes on Proposition 33:

WHAT: California Response to President Biden’s July 16th press conference calling on Congress to institute a five percent rent cap on corporate landlords.

WHO: Interviews available upon request with Congressmember Ro Khanna, Co-Chair of the Yes on Proposition 33 Rent Control campaign, in response to President Biden’s national rent cap proposal.

Congressmember Khanna will speak to how California can address similar unaffordable rents within the state.

WHY: In response to skyrocketing rents, President Biden is imploring Congress to institute a five percent national rent cap on corporate landlords who own 500 units or more. In California, voters can address corporate landlords’ exorbitant rent increases by passing Proposition 33, an initiative on the November 5th ballot which will allow local governments to expand rent control to stabilize communities.

Proposition 33, sponsored by AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) and now endorsed by more than 100 elected and formerly elected officials in California, is just 23 words: "The state may not limit the right of any city, county, or city and county to maintain, enact or expand residential rent control.”
