NEWHALL, Calif., May 20, 2024 /PRNewswire-PRWeb/ -- Author Roland Wrinkle provides readers with an interesting view of the Bible and same-sex relationships in The Third Way: How Reframing The Biblical Debates On "Same Gender Relationships" Unlocks The Scriptural Witness ($15.49, paperback, 9781662897443; $6.99, e-book, 9781662897450).

If we're going to attach such opprobrium and condemnation to same-gender attraction, we better be careful that we're doing our best to objectively read what the bible has to say about the matter.

Wrinkle explores whether the Bible, God, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and Paul are "anti-gay." He believes that labels can often morph into pejoratives, cause more confusion than clarity, and produce more heat than light – resulting in divisiveness. Wrinkle wants readers to understand that not everything in the bible can be reduced to slogans, catchphrases and epithets, and that nuance is the casualty of over-stated factionalism. He explains that these discussions go array for two reasons: the lack of definitional rigor and discipline, plus binary assumptions. In this book, Wrinkle introduces a refreshing perspective, "The Third Way" to interpret how Scripture addresses this contemporary situation by rigorously defining this controversial issue through freshly examining what the biblical authors were talking about. Readers will appreciate his thoughtful examination to help decipher this ongoing debate.

When asked what inspired the author to write this book, Wrinkle said, "If we're going to attach such opprobrium and condemnation to same-gender attraction, we better be careful that we're doing our best to objectively read what the bible has to say about the matter. I have a rather large biblical studies library, which includes a considerable sampling of books addressed to the subject and have read and considered most of them. I found any sense of ecumenism mostly lacking. Two opposing camps were formed, and they both seem to be talking past each other. Recognized or unrecognized predispositions and preconceived perspectives appeared to permeate so many of these explorations of the subject. A different approach was needed. Fifteen years ago, I began to examine the issue with great interest and now thought it was high time that I aggregate and integrate all of the materials I had amassed over the years and weave it all together in the form of a book."
