Mexican phone company Telefonos de Mexico SAB (TMX), or Telmex, said Wednesday it plans to market and distribute Cisco Systems' (CSCO) TelePresence videoconferencing system in Latin America.

In a press release, Telmex said that under the agreement, it will also set up public rooms in the region equipped with the technology where companies or individuals can hold videoconferences, renting the service by the hour.

The plan involves Telmex, Mexico's largest fixed-line phone company and Internet service provider, and Telmex Internacional (TII), or Telint, which operates across Latin America.

Telmex said the network of public centers will join up to the existing Cisco Telepresence network, giving users the ability to connect to other parts of the world on the Cisco network.
