BOCA RATON, Fla., July 11, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Two-time Grammy
nominated singer/songwriter Justin
Bieber and PhoneGuard, Inc., formerly known as Options Media
Group Holdings, Inc., (OTCQB: OPMG) (PINKSHEETS: OPMG)
today announced the launch of a campaign dedicated to encouraging
responsible texting, through the use of PhoneGuard's acclaimed
Drive Safe™ software application, which disables the texting,
emailing and keyboard functions of a mobile phone while in a
vehicle moving faster than 10 miles per hour. Justin and PhoneGuard
(www.PhoneGuard.com) are working closely with the Remember Alex
Brown Foundation, organized by the family of teenager Alex Brown who tragically lost her life because
of texting and driving. A multi-platform campaign will be rolled
out over the next several weeks that will include a wide range of
content, including PSA videos by Justin and the family of
Alex Brown.
According to the United States Department of Transportation,
more than 1,000 people die each year within the U.S. due to texting
while driving. Working with PhoneGuard on this important initiative
reinforces Justin's long-standing commitment to increasing public
awareness of texting while driving, while at the same time
providing financial support for charities such as the Remember Alex
Brown Foundation.
"As a 17-year-old driver, I am aware of the countless
distractions that we teenagers face on the road, and texting is one
that is preventable," said Justin. "There are too many young
people, like Alex Brown, whom we've
lost because of texting while driving, and it is my hope that,
through this partnership with PhoneGuard, we will raise awareness
of this issue and create safer conditions for everyone on the
road."
PhoneGuard's revolutionary Drive Safe™ anti-texting while
driving software application suite disables the texting, emailing
and keyboard functions of a mobile phone in a vehicle that is in
motion.
By using GPS to track speed and coordinates, the Don't Text
Don't Drive Mobile Application automatically turns off certain
functionalities of the driver's mobile phone when the phone is in a
moving vehicle. Thus, the user will no longer be able to text,
email, surf the web or instant message while driving. When the car
is stopped for more than five seconds, however, the phone will
automatically allow texting and other data functions to resume. Any
missed text messages will be waiting for the user. Once the user
starts driving again, the software will automatically block these
activities again. Drive Safe™ is part of a larger application suite
that features additional safety components such as a phone locator,
speed parameter function and phone information wipe, in the case of
a stolen phone.
"With more than 600,000 accidents and 448,000 injuries each year
related to distracted driving, it's clearly time to bring this
issue to the forefront," said PhoneGuard CEO Scott Frohman. "We're very much looking forward
to working with Justin Bieber on
this initiative because he is able to connect with less
experienced, new drivers and educate them about responsible texting
and the Drive Safe™ application. Justin has played a key role in
developing the program and his extraordinary reach will make him
instrumental in promoting it. A tremendous amount of work has gone
on behind the scenes since mid-May, and today is the beginning of
the rollout that will include promotional videos, commercials,
splash pages and websites featuring Justin, in addition to a few
secret promotions that will be unveiled over the coming weeks,
which we believe will be extremely inspiring and viewed by
millions."
Echoing Frohman's sentiments, Chairman of the Board Keith St.
Clair said, "We have been very impressed by the commitment of
Justin and his team in helping develop this awareness and marketing
program. It is quite clear to us that preventing injury and death
due to distracted driving is very important to Justin, as is his
desire to raise funds for charities that support this cause."
